Frightening Incidents Begin in Target's Transgender-Friendly Bathrooms - 0 views

  •
A 22-year-old New Hampshire man was arrested, tried, and charged with violation of privacy after he recorded underage girls in a Target bathroom. Transgender equality has been a rising problem in the United States, and Target's motion to allow gender neutral bathrooms may be causing more harm than good. Many feel this is allowing people to easily take advantage of the progress Target is trying to make, and more instances of men and underage girls are surfacing and are requiring attention, and whether Transgender friendly bathrooms are creating and unsafe environment.

Children with Disabilities Face Discrimination - 0 views

  •
Children with special needs or a disability have the right to an education and to go to school. In this article, it goes over that in New Orleans, families with children that have a disability are facing a huge problem. Schools are rejecting these students, which is discrimination. The schools that they are sending the children to aren't equipped to teach most of these children, either.
  •
I know in Peoria, AZ a lot of high schools such as Liberty and Sunrise Mountain have special education classrooms for students with disabilities so that they are able to learn at their own pace while still taking in useful information and progressing throughout their years of schooling. I feel as if every school should have programs for these students. Just because they don't learn at the same pace as others, does not mean they should not be able to get an education.

I have witnessed domestic violence first hand and the devastation it causes. It isn't always physical abuse either. A lot of times it is verbal and manipulative. It is very sad that insecurities and mental issues have such a devastating effect.
  •
Domestic violence can be physically, sexually and mentally. Many people now days want to have control of the relationship. When a person is starting to be possessive and controlling is a sign that you are going to be miserable with that person. People are free to do whatever they want to do, think how they want to think. we have to take action. No more domestic violence.
  •
I would like to see more of a punishment for cases involving abuse. So many cases slip through, or are not made a priority due to it being such a common issue. It is tragic to think someone can get away with victimizing family members, partners, or even strangers. I also believe substance abuse plays a huge role in why people want to have the upper-hand on others.
  •
This is an issue that should not be happening in the world today. It is important that we focus on controlling situations such as this so they stop being so common.
  •
People need to be more aware of signs that could possibly be domestic violence. I also think that we should learn more about it as children in school, and even offer ways for young ones to seek help if they're afraid.

Donald Trump and the Triumph of Climate Denial - 1 views

Our progress with climate change risk being overturned. A lot of people including our president don't believe in the science of global warming.

I am so desperate and angry that I wish Mother Nature did something to wake those people up. Maybe a massive earthquake or tsunami will show them how bad of the current state our planet is in.
  •
How do you explain the duality of scientific evidence logically pertaining to the results of meta studies both proving and disproving climate change effects and signs?
  •
dal2124240, you don't when it pertains to our newly elected administration.
  •
Again I will ask how do you personally explain the duality of scientific evidence? The last time I check the currently elected administration is not taking English 102 or 101, sharing fact based articles or an attempt there unto pertaining. How do you personally defend your argument against the duality of scientific research; That in the last 30 years the atmosphere over the Antarctic has repaired itself over 150,000,000 square miles despite the increase of carbon emissions?

Daddy Track: The Case for Paternity Leave - The Atlantic - 2 views

  •
This article discusses the benefits of paid paternity leave. Fathers are more likely to be more involved in child rearing if they take parental leave to bond.
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
In my opinion, paternity leave isn't something that should be issued. They can bond with the child when they get home from their job. Meanwhile, the mother just stays home and takes care of the baby since she'll have to rest and recover those few weeks post giving birth anyways.
  •
I was in agreement until they started throwing in, it makes you a better father and gender equality. I have four kids, no paternity leave, and I bathe them, help with homework, and change diapers. Paternity leave helps progress women? Far reach.
  •
Pros and cons to fathers getting maternity leave depending on the family and if its paid too of course. My opinion is if you have other small children who need to be attended to after just giving birth, need assistants due to some complications after giving birth or if a father wants to share 6 wks at home with his new baby then why not give them maternity leave? Then you have independent women who don't need dad at home getting in the way or adding to her list of chores all while caring for a new baby. If my husband was on maternity leave I would have a "honey-do list" for him, diaper changing tasks and cooking meals.

Child Sex Trafficking - 2 views

  •
This article is about how prevelant child sex trafficking is in the US. 100,000 a year to be exact. It is a 9.8 billion dollar industry
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
The market for sex trafficking is in the billions yet, I cannot recall any coverage on the capture and arrest of a sex trafficking ring. It would be helpful to know what progress has been made in curtailing the practice of selling children for sex. I can think of several arrests in the news for smuggling and selling drugs. It bothers me that something this impactful to innocent lives and so detrimental to society does not appear to have any signs of slowing down.
  •
Nearly half of the people captured for human trafficking are children. If children ever make it out of human trafficking, they have severe physical and mental health issues.
  •
Sex trafficking has been such a devastating thing that has yet to decline over the years. It seems as if the more time goes on, the numbers increase and not the other way around. 100,000 lives to be taken a year is so saddening. It is such a shame that there is no way even with technology today to decrease these numbers.

Pay gap, women's rights, gender equality: US ranks 28th worldwide - 1 views

  •
This article talks about women's rights across the world. The article lists countries who rank the highest and countries who rank the lowest. The United States surprisingly falls lower than expected. No country is ranked a perfect 100% but there are countries who come close, USA not being one of them.
  •
Such a shame from a country that widely considers itself advocates for equal rights. There are many of us that recognize this same concept, that being gender inequalities and pay gaps still exist, and advocate for that to be abolished. With the recent advances in how sensitive our society is regarding social issues, how long is this really going to take? One would think that we, as a culture of the U.S., would have already arrived to a point of true gender equality.
  •
This is a very interesting article. I knew there is a significant pay gap within the U.S. and was honestly surprised to see it so high up. As someone else said, it certainly is a shame that we are so low yet consider the US to be one of the most progressive countries with social issues.

Survey: 1 in 5 Americans can't afford necessary care - MedCity News - 0 views

  •
One of the major social issues in our world, and especially in The United States, is accessible and affordable healthcare. Americans are not able to afford healthcare, and those that manage to pay for it state that more things need to be included.
  •
I think that is an important and relevant topic in America many of its own citizens can't afford basic care and health needs. It is something that we need to look more diligently on. America can not progress when its citizens are suffering. Great Article!
  •
It's sad that people can't afford healthcare it should be more accessible to everyone. If everyone could afford healthcare then we wouldn't have so many deaths.
