Flickr allows students to take pictures and send them to a private space online. For example: A homework assignment for 4th grade mathematics students requires students to take pictures of different polygons they see in their everyday lives and instantly send them (along with a short text message describing the type of polygon) to a private space online. The next day in class the teacher can open the private space and use it to illustrate polygons and their connection to students' lives, leading to a lesson on how to measure these polygons. Both flickr.com and photobucket.com are sites that would allow this type of sharing. Both have a private mobile address that can be used on any mobile phone; the teacher just needs to set up the mobile account and give the students the address.

As of August 2011 Academic Skill Builders has released 40 web-based learning games designed to help K-8 students build basic math, olanguage arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills. The games incorporate multiplayer capabilities in educational gaming. Studetns can play together in groups of 4, 8, or 12 at a time, promoting positive interaction and achievement. Educators can use the free arcade-like games with a projector screen, interactive whiteboard, or computer lab. Security safeguards ensure that no one outside the classroom can contact students who are playing the games. The games align with state standards and the Common Core Standards.

Sharing this again as there have been some additions to that that I think will be very helpful for teachers grades K-8.

Edward Bonver's Poetry Lovers' Page provides the complete poetry collections of Famous English and Russian poets for grades 6-12. You'll find everything from A-gskw to Zveda Vechanyaya,k with plenty in between. the mythology section is divided to six geograqphical regions: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Oceania. The Folklore section contains general folklore, Arthurian legends, Greek heroic legend, and fascinating folktales from many lands. In addition, there are special topics, including A Bestiary, legendary heroes, an image gallery, and genealogical tables of various pantheons and prominent houses.

The Ad Decoder is produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The game appears on the B.A.M. (body and mind) section of their website. BAM is full of great resources for health and physical education teachers. The Ad Decoder provides students with two virtual magazines which they flip through to see examples and explanations of advertising tactics used to grab the attention of tweens and teens. Teacher's first look like an interesting place for teachers to locate a variety of resources for teaching. As you will see by the home page a corporate partner with this site is ISTE which is the International Society for Technology in Education.

Wolfram/Alpha is to be the first web-based tool that can find answers to all systematic knowledge in the world. For educators, this "computational iknowledge engine" can find objective and fact-based answers for a variety of subject areas. Type in "Newton's Law," for example, and the formula for force is explained. Enter in an equation for a line, and the site plots the line on a graph. Ask "What is the GDP of the United States and Canada?" and a chart depicts a side-byside comparison of the nations' economic data.

PBS Teachers is a wonderful site with lots of resources and supplemental material for teachers to use with students. This particular link will take you directly to the STEM education resource center: Professional Development and the focus on this page is Global Climate Change Modules from PBS and NASA. However, if you look at the top of the page you can choose a specific grade band and then within that there are various content areas that can be chosen. Looks like a very interesting site with lots of resources to select from.
