The Non-Designer's Swiss Army Knife of Free Tools to Make Sweet Landing Pages | Unbounce - 0 views

The keys to good landing pages is helping the visitor to decide what to do and what is important. Color and shape are two ways to announce visually what matters. I love this selection of tools (though I hate MS Paint). Even a marketer that is mocking up pages can use these tools to emphasize what is important for a designer. New tools for the conversion lab.

Rotating Banners? Just Say No! | ClickZ - 0 views

It is astounding that these rotating hero shots are so common on e-commerce sites. We have seen in the lab that they are a sure way to reduce site engagement and crater conversion rates. Don't believe it? Tim Ash would know and lists the reasons in this eye-opening article. Please read it.
There is more on hero sliders in my most recent Search Engine Land column.

Don't let all of this scare you. It's better to try and learn from your mistakes than to not make any mistakes at all. Test away!

And if you want a fantastic example of using storytelling to educate and entertain, this post is just such a thing.

A new tool for our online conversion lab! Facebook is apparently going to give us more insight into the behavior of individuals on our Facebook pages. The more we know about the success of these pages, the better decisions we can make about spending our marketing time and dollars on social media.
Despite all the hype, social networks are not a panacea for businesses, and many are putting too many resources into them without knowing the payoff.
Internet Explorer must die - Dec. 30, 2014 - 0 views

Internet Explorer has definitely been a source of problems for our customers. There is an overlap between users of IE and visitors in an older age group.
Now, IE is promising yet another browser for Win10, and it may be less functional, a "lite" version.
This means that we will have another potential curve ball from Microsoft to deal with. Don't worry. We'll have a Windows 10 machine in our QA lab as soon as it begins shipping.

If you've seen me present, you notice that I wear a lab coat during my presentations. The reason is that it gives me an unfair advantage. Studies have shown that, when I wear a lab coat, I will make about half the errors in cognitive tests as if I was wearing my street clothes. This video sums it up nicely.
