I thought this was a nice description of how and why to use some of the collaborative writing tools in classrooms.

NOAA is a great resource for some very cool photos. It's a way of getting photos that you can use for instrucitonal purposes and students can use for their work.

This wiki collects information about tools and resources that can help scholars (particularly in the humanities and social sciences) conduct research more efficiently or creatively. Whether you need software to help you manage citations, author a multimedia work, or analyze texts, Digital Research Tools will help you find what you're looking for. Not all the software is free, but it does provide an extensive list of software for use.

Ed.voicethread Network. This is a great little video (oh wait, it's a voicethread) explaining how the educator voicethread is designed.

Always a fan of the fibonacci sequence and think this does a nice job of describing the relationship in nature. I really like the examples, but could do withouth the authors humor.

Great compare contrast tool for modeling with students what that might look like.

NIce slideshare about digital storytelling and the use of voicethread to accomplish that. Slide 2 quote: "In educationeze, it's Multimodal Writing. While any use of a computer to help present a story could be called digital storytelling, it's now a term of art for a presentation with a scripted voice-over narration which is illustrated by a series of mostly still images, sometimes with brief video clips, often with a musical background added." A little not taking oneself too seriously with what I think is a good description of digital storytelling.

Story Top is a good web-based tool for creating digital stories and comics. Story Top features an easy-to-use drag and drop tool for creating your story. To use Story Top simply select your background, characters, and text bubbles from the menu and drag them into your story box. After selecting the basic story elements you can then add additional elements like plants, animals, and vehicles. When your story is complete you can save it in your Story Top account or send it to friend. You can also share your story with a group of other Story Top users.

Pixton is a comic creation tool that has been passed around the education blog-o-sphere quite a bit lately. Pixton has a drag and drop interface which allows anyone regardless of artistic ability to create comics. Recently Pixton introduced Pixton for Schools which allows teachers to create private rooms in which only their students can create and share comics. To learn more about Pixton, watch this short video.

Collection of free primary source material from around the world. Searchable by place, time period, topic, or institution. And it looks cool. The map interface will help students visualize where resources originate and will allow them to easily think about topics from a multicultural point of view.

Thought it was an interesting site on English composition that might be useful to someone in ELA. I liked the first activity on the post bookmarked, so I chose to send that particular post.

STill looking to create better understanding of the potential of twitter. This is a way of tracking tweets during a class, by tracking tweets with a particular hash or from a particular set of users.

Great set of tools available online for free. I played with several and really like the ease of use, the nice conceptual nature of them (i.e. archimedi's bathtub is a great example of a graph that could be used to help students understand change).

Another online graphing utility. Not as rigorous as Swivel, but offers a way of creating interesting venn diagrams. Great tool for teaching how to label and provide unit data so people can read the graph most effectively.

The title says it all. I think it has a pretty good library of videos. I like the fact that the transcript is highlighted to the right of the video. Very slickly produced by the History channel. What's not to like? Your thought?
