Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art - 1 views

I've always liked timelines as an educational tool. They offer the ability to show related threads compared to each other easily. I loved having students investigate a single topic, create a timeline for that topic, mash the timelines together in a BIG overarching timeine, and then have students start to look for connections. I stole the concept early in my career from the TV show Connections (too bad it didn't make it, GREAT GREAT show).

Interesting new online timeline application. Seems user friendly and encourages the use of images in each post. I like it! they have a revenue model and still support free accounts with limited number of timelines and posts to each timeline.

Photo Timelines - LIFE - 3 views

Timelines are great tools for having students make connections between events and to determine cause-effect relationships. Life is a treasure trove of images and I love the progression using photos.  Not a lot of great selections at this time and the timelines are only photos, but they are great photos.

Another timeline tool that allows for addition of text events along a timeline. It's still in beta, but relatively easy to use. Not a lot of bells and whistles. Can import from Flickr, Wikipedia, but I haven't found that you can embed video, yet.

Interesting approach to timelines in history. Not a fan of the interface, but very interesting approach to include Google searches as part of the information. Why try to write it all when it's available at your fingertips. This might be an interesting new resource for teachers/students.

The Presidential Timeline of the Twentieth Century - 0 views

Fairly interactive, some primary source pictures, some primary source material. A great example of how a timeline can be used to show the flow of related events or just things that happen when.

Google News Timeline - 0 views

I think this is a GREAT resource with massive potential. If you teach any current issues/sociology/modern history courses then this tool is a must. Even if you teach courses like 'algebra' then this tool has potential. I spent less than five minutes looking at the query 'regression analysis' and found two valid content related applications of regression analysis that I could easily use with an algebra I, II or precal course. As an example in the first resource I came across this http://web.sny.tv/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090424&content_id=1499716&vkey=1 article from SNY.tv that mentions "each (interception) in the minus column costs you approximately six points on average over many years of regression analysis." I can see just having an algebra I course examine/explain what that means mathematically, I can see allowing some students to group, decide what data they would need to confirm that analysis and if you wanted let them analyze the data or look for the analysis that has already been done by contacting the author/NFL. If I can find that kind of information within 5 minutes then imagine what someone with imagination could do! Great resource, a must share with your core content teachers and I firmly believe this tool could quickly vault up the list of most useful very ,very quickly. I can't let this go without thinking about differentiation in the classroom, I search for a topic, let groups look at the timeline and choose their own reading (if I have a group that will be challenged by their choice, I might point them to another reading that might scaffold their understanding), but I've built in choice, built in the ability to manage the sources, opened up the ability to quickly find multiple types of sources (video, blogs, primary sources).

Google Earth Outreach - Tutorial: Spreadsheet Mapper 2.0 - 0 views

I think Google Earth is an underutilized tool to use with students. I can imagine all kinds of projects to use it with, and with this spreadsheet applet, it's now incredibly easy to use. If you know of any English teachers teaching Shakespears encourage them to have their students create timelines of events during that period.

I love Google Earth and here is a simple way to create projects about places, create timelines of events, or just have fun remembering a vacation. It's interactive, easy to use, can be educational, what more could you ask for!

"NASA Images provides photos and video related to space exploration, aeronautics, and astronomy. Topics include the universe, solar system, earth, and astronauts. A space flight interactive timeline shows images and video from the 1959 launch of Explorer 1, the first spacecraft successfully launched by the U.S., to the Mars Rovers and International Space Station. Interesting Animated history of the US. I like the idea, I wonder if students could use this model to create their own map/timeline combo to present information.
