Toggle buttons allow you to select which thematic layers to activate. Choices include: Territory names Changing boundaries, imperial rulers and political systems Violent conflicts Economic and demographic trends You can advance or reverse the chronology and change the speed with "play," "fast forward," and "rewind" buttons. The site also offers a textual summary of the year-by-year changes. The Flash-based animation may be operated interactively on the web or downloaded as Mac OS X or Windows executibles. Interesting Animated history of the US. I like the idea, I wonder if students could use this model to create their own map/timeline combo to present information.

TED-Ed | Lessons Worth Sharing - 5 views

TED brings their thoughtful approach to lesson development for classroom use. The animation of videos is interesting and worth exploring. I am more intrigued by the possibility of developing a library of good lessons using YouTube and the TED talks. There is power in numbers.

Great opportunity to collaborate online with scientists researching real questions: "the team is trying to answer the question - how do the skeletal muscles of seals develop to work during deep dives, even when the animal is not breathing for long periods of time. The researchers believe the answers to this question may have tremendous implications for human medicine. By understanding how another mammal has successfully overcome the debilitating effects of working under low oxygen conditions, we may be able to learn new therapeutic approaches to assist humans with heart or lung disease. Data visualizations for a changing world The Google Public Data Explorer makes large datasets easy to explore, visualize and communicate. As the charts and maps animate over time, the changes in the world become easier to understand. You don't have to be a data expert to navigate between different views, make your own comparisons, and share your findings.

The Kerpoof website is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company. What is Kerpoof? The answer to that is not so simple. Kerpoof is all about having fun, discovering things, and being creative. Here are just a few ways that you can use Kerpoof: * Make artwork (even if you aren't good at drawing!) * Make an animated movie (really! it's easy!) * Earn Koins which you can trade for fun things in the Kerpoof Store * Make a printed card, t-shirt, or mug * Tell a story * Make a drawing * Vote on the movies, stories, and drawings that other people have made

Story Top is a good web-based tool for creating digital stories and comics. Story Top features an easy-to-use drag and drop tool for creating your story. To use Story Top simply select your background, characters, and text bubbles from the menu and drag them into your story box. After selecting the basic story elements you can then add additional elements like plants, animals, and vehicles. When your story is complete you can save it in your Story Top account or send it to friend. You can also share your story with a group of other Story Top users.

My StoryMaker : Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - 3 views

  • My StoryMaker lets you control characters and objects - and creates sentences for you! Once you are done with your story, you can print it out. You cannot go back and edit a story once you have ended it but, if you click "yes" when asked to share it with others, you can print it out again by entering the magic number it gives you in the box on the right. Since lack of space forces us to delete story files older than 1 month, please save the .pdf file that prints to your own computer.

Great way to get students to write a dialogue. The nice thing about this tool is that students can listen and then make changes based on their reaction to their own language (at least I did when I made my little test video- no I'm not sharing it)
