Media Access Generator (MAGpie) Version 2.0.2 (OS X) and 2.0.5 (Windows) are now available Developers of Web- and CD-ROM-based multimedia need an authoring tool for making their materials accessible to persons with disabilities. The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) has developed two such tools, version 1.0 and 2.0.2 of the Media Access Generator (MAGpie), for creating captions and audio descriptions for rich media.

The World Wide Web has rapidly become the dominant Internet tool, combining hypertext and multimedia to provide a network of educational, governmental, and commercial resources. Much of its power comes from the fact that it presents information in a variety of formats while it also organizes that information through hypertext links. Because of the multimedia nature of the web combined with the poor design of some websites, many Internet surfers cannot access the full range of resources this revolutionary tool provides. Some visitors: * Cannot see graphics because of visual impairments. * Cannot hear audio because of hearing impairments. * Use slow Internet connections and modems or equipment that cannot easily download large files. * Have difficulty navigating sites that are poorly organized with unclear directions because they have learning disabilities, speak English as a second language, or are younger than the average user.

The WebAIM Guide to Web Accessibility is likely the most comprehensive accessibility resource available. The CD-ROM based training contains the equivalent of over 1000 printed pages of instructional materials, plus hundreds of examples, simulations, videos, and other accessibility resources. This CD-ROM based training is an excellent solution for learning or training others in your organization about all aspects of web accessibility.

Digital stories for faculty development can provide real-life experiences of exemplary teaching strategies and the process of implementing them. These digital case stories can be used freely in faculty development programs and also accessed by individual instructors.

How to Use Help * When the Help icon Help Question Mark appears, you can click the icon and help for the screen you are on will display. * To obtain help for the database(s) you are searching, click the Help icon Help Question Mark to the right of the Find field and click on the Database name at the bottom of the left-hand side of the Help window. Database help is also available from the Choose Databases window. * To view the entire Help System, click the Help link at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Note: The recommended screen resolution for EBSCOhost is 1024 x 768.

Professors have the option of placing materials on reserve for students enrolled in their classes to access. These items are available for checkout at the Reserve Desk, located at the Circulation Font Desk near the Library's main entrance. For media items placed on reserve, a second desk is located on the 3rd floor at the Media Desk.

Your UCF ID serves as your Library card. Activation of your Library ID number is necessary to check out library materials, view electronic resources off-campus, and utilize Interlibrary Loan. If you are an enrolled student, staff or faculty member of UCF and have never checked out materials at any of the UCF Libraries, please fill out the form below.
