Media Access Generator (MAGpie) Version 2.0.2 (OS X) and 2.0.5 (Windows) are now available Developers of Web- and CD-ROM-based multimedia need an authoring tool for making their materials accessible to persons with disabilities. The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) has developed two such tools, version 1.0 and 2.0.2 of the Media Access Generator (MAGpie), for creating captions and audio descriptions for rich media.

This article describes an ongoing informal study of a distance learning course that uses multiple emerging interactive media to increase and enhance students' participation. (The co-authors are, respectively, the course instructor and a doctoral student in education who took the course and conducted research on students' participation patterns.) First, we present the conceptual context underlying our vision of interactive media for learning; next, we describe the design of the course and the educational interactions this fosters; then, we analyze the learning outcomes that result from this instructional strategy; and finally we discuss the evolution of emerging interactive media. This structure parallels the "scholarship of teaching" framework presented in Randy Bass's article.

Professors have the option of placing materials on reserve for students enrolled in their classes to access. These items are available for checkout at the Reserve Desk, located at the Circulation Font Desk near the Library's main entrance. For media items placed on reserve, a second desk is located on the 3rd floor at the Media Desk.

Wikipedia is an online, dynamic encyclopedia, which anyone can add or edit content. One of the exciting things about this site is that history is documented within minutes of an event occurring. Additionally at UCF, faculty members have made assignments asking students to rewrite poorly or sparsely written entries. Questions have arisen about Wikipedia's accuracy; Henry Jenkins from MIT discussed its uses and validity at the 2008 Annual Meeting for Educause Learning Initiative. YouTube is a video sharing website on which users can upload and share videos, and view them in MPEG-4 format.

YouTube has video and lecture resources for current events that may be useful in a classroom environment. For example, some faculty members have found video clips to explain a difficult concept and have integrated them in their classes.
