Visual Engagement Takes it up a Notch with Camtasia 8
If you watched the Camtasia Studio for E-learning webinar last month you probably caught on pretty fast that the revamped quizzing feature and interactive hotspots available in Camtasia Studio make for an amazing degree of interactivity. But students can still find a courses boring no matter how much clicking and dragging they get to do if the course itself is not visually engaging.

Converting Large Group Classes to Massive Online Courses
Last month, the NY Times declared 2012 as the year of the MOOC. With so many educators and students involved in these courses, we should think about how we can best convert the university course experience to this new, scalable online experience. For simplicity, let's break the process of transferring knowledge into three parts: instruction, coaching, and assessment / feedback.

I have been creating a lot of student projects that use ThingLink as a tool for learning. I have also received a handful of of questions from teachers who are highly interested in facilitating a similiar project of their own, but need help with the management involved.
"With so much active student engagement, how do you manage a project like this?"
The ThingLink Interactive Image Contest invites students to connect audio, video, images, and text in one cohesive presentation. Students will dig deeper into content through research to present knowledge and ideas as they learn, practice and demonstrate digital literacy skills in image creation, selection, content curation, creativity, tagging and sharing.
Creativity as a Gift or as a Choice for the Learner?
There have been so many opinions shared related to creativity and its role for the educator and for the one being educated. No matter the field, creativity has become a common topic, for educators, businessmen, consultants, managers and other professionals alike.

How to Earn (and Keep) Trust as an eLearning Instructor
eLearning answers many needs of a 21st century audience. It eliminates travel, thereby reducing our carbon footprint. It provides immediate results, and is therefore a streamlined training solution. And eLearning is laser-targeted to develop precise skill sets. But eLearning instructors also have to contend with the drawbacks of the online experience; namely, recreating the physicality of a classroom. Better technology makes the training an ever more interactive experience. Still, the instructor-student relationship is not exactly replicated in an online environment.

Learning from Harvard: MOOC story, pt2
Continuing my elaborate plan to take CS50x, the introductory computer programming MOOC from Harvard, and to share what I'm learning about quality online course design from the student perspective, this week began some real programming, complete with cryptic coding commands, and lots of time spent staring and/or cursing at the computer screen while trying to figure out exactly why the program wasn't working. (As such, you may notice a more negative batch of comments this time around). Let's see what this week had to offer…

Students can construct deep knowledge about a topic as they engage in building a multimedia project. If used effectively, a well designed student-driven learning experience can take the place of traditional methods of teaching content. Use of digital tools can provide students with flexible learning paths to meet their unique learning styles.

Harvard researchers: frequent tests increase retention in online learning
It's easy to get distracted--especially when you're in the midst of an online training course that shows no signs of ending. While most of us can agree on the utility of web-delivered training, we must also face the reality that even the most well-intentioned of learners, when left to their own devices, can be distracted by a sudden beep on their tablet or a buzz of their smartphone.
