Can Aprotinin Reduce Pancreatitis After Scoliosis Surgery - 0 views

  •
Pancreatitis is caused by an acute injury on the pancreas. We have recently reported a high rate of acute pancreatitis developing in children who undergo posterior spinal fusion for scoliosis (to correct spinal curve). We showed that the amount of blood loss during the surgery is related to the incidence of pancreatitis

Whole-Body Cooling for Birth Asphyxia in Term Infants - 1 views

  •
Acute birth asphyxia is a cause of death and neurological injury. At present, there is no proven treatment; however, studies in animals suggest that brain cooling may protect against brain injury. This large multicenter trial will randomize term infants with a history of problems at delivery and signs of depression to total body cooling or standard care.

Progesterone (17OHP) for Prolongation of Pregnancy in Women With Preterm Rupture of the Membranes (PROM) - Obstetrix Medical Group - 0 views

  •
Study is to determine if a weekly dose of 17P (Progesterone) given to women with preterm rupture of the membranes will: increase the probability of continuing the pregnancy until a favorable gestational age.Increase the interval between randomization and delivery. Decrease neonatal morbidity.

MRI Thermal Imaging of Infants Undergoing Cooling for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy(HIE) _ Vanderbilt University - 1 views

  •
Hundreds of babies in the world are being treated with brain cooling to prevent brain injury after they lose oxygen at birth. This study will use the newly developed information from the magnet resonance image to determine the actual temperature of the brain. This will enable researchers to determine if the brain is being uniformly cooled and if techniques that provide cooling need to be changed to improve the injury prevention from cooling

Effect of Protein Composition on Gastric Emptying - 0 views

  •
Future planned study to assess the effect of the Protein Composition on the Gastric Emptying Rate in Children With Cerebral Paresis and find out whether 4 different protein sources affect the rate of gastric emptying and electrofysiology in children with cerebral palsy

Study Assessing High-Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO) in Preventing Pulmonary Exacerbations - 0 views

  •
A Pilot Study to Assess the Efficacy and Effectiveness of High-Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO) in Preventing Pulmonary Exacerbations in Children With Muscle Weakness and Restrictive Lung Disease To further demonstrate that airway clearance provided by Vest therapy reduces the frequency of respiratory exacerbations requiring hospitalization or antibiotic utilization in patients with muscle weakness and restrictive lung disease.

Study of Abnormal Blood Clotting in Children With Stroke - 0 views

  •
Study will measure the frequency of several coagulation factor abnormalities (factor V Leiden, prothrombin 20210A, protein C, protein S, antithrombin III, and antiphospholipid antibodies) in children with a history of porencephaly and stroke, and will compare these to the prevalence of these mutations in population controls and family members.

Effect of Protein Composition on Gastric Emptying - 0 views

  •
European study to find out whether 4 different protein sources affect the rate of gastric emptying and electrofysiology in this group of children. The protein composition of nutrition may affect the rate of gastric emptying and gastric fysiology. This is especially important in children with neurologic impariment, who commonly rely on tube feedings, have feeding problems, nausea, vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux and delayed gastric emptying.

The Effect of Oxygen Exposure During Newborn Resuscitation on Lung Injury - University of Calgary - 0 views

  •
Completed study. In this feasibility study, hyperoxemia, as proximated by transcutaneous hemoglobin saturation with oxygen (Sp02), at the time of birth will cause sustained pulmonary oxidative stress as demonstrated by elevation of ulmonary protein carbonyl. Furthermore, this oxidative stress will be directly proportional to the imposed oxygen-burden during resuscitation at the time of birth. This study will give us information regarding the magnitude of protein carbonyl elevation in the preterm infant. With these results we will be able to 1. establish the technique for the running or protein carbonyl assays and 2. calculate an appropriate sample size for a future randomized control trial.
