1 | CollabFinder Wants To Make Hackathons A Part Of College Life | Co.Design: business ... - 0 views

  • A growing list of schools are turning to the "serendipity engine" to help students find cross-discipline collaborators for passion projects.
  • finding a cross-disciplinary collaboration is tougher--most of us are more likely to head to a meetup or networking event to fish for someone outside of our skill set. That’s fine, but it’s not a very efficient way to find exactly what you’re looking for.
  •
Interesting! What if we could do something similar - a website where collaborators can gather from all over the world to work on e-learning strategies and applications?

Adobe Demos Flash-to-HTML5 Conversion Tool [VIDEO] - 1 views

  • At Adobe’s MAX conference the other night, that message was made manifest with a live demonstration of a Flash to HTML5 conversion tool, which is currently in the works. The tool is incredibly impressive in that it can convert full Flash animation into HTML5 on the fly
  • Watch the demonstration video to get an idea of how users will be able to take elements from within the newly converted HTML5 code to re-insert elsewhere on a web page
  • Those animations or interactions will now be viewable on all kinds of devices — including the iPhone () and iPad. This is where we think that this HTML5 conversion tool has real possibilities. It’s one thing to be able to convert a movie or animation
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Adobe might be serious about wanting to push Flash and Adobe Air () on mobile platforms like the BlackBerry PlayBook, HP’s webOS and Google’s () Android (), but that doesn’t mean that the company isn’t listening to its customers and providing cross-platform solutions that can work on the many different device types

Game by 14-year-old outsoars Angry Birds | Gaming and Culture - CNET News - 1 views

  • While Angry Birds is still the top paid iPhone game, a game written by an eighth-grader has spent the last few days atop Apple's free charts.
  • Some months back, a friend suggested that if Nay liked his iPod touch so much, perhaps he should try his hand at programming for it. At first he tried the standard Objective-C programming tools, but found the learning curve a little steep. He tried another tool called GameSalad, but didn't like the results. In the end, he settled on the Corona tools from Ansca Mobile. Corona was easy to use, he said, and also let him write once and publish for both Apple and Android devices.

Teachers told not to friend students on Facebook - 1 views

  • Facebook is not banned from the classroom. Facebook pages or groups established for classroom use are allowed — as is most other social media. However, teachers are strictly forbidden to communicate with students through any personal means, such as private instant messages or through personal Facebook profiles. According to the advisory, teachers must decline student-initiated friend requests, and never initiate a friend request with a student. The college asserts that when a teacher and a student become friends in an online environment, the dynamic between them is forever changed. An invisible line between professional and personal is crossed, which can lead to strictly forbidden informal conversations.
