Sleep Is Death (Geisterfahrer) - 0 views

  •
A very interesting and innovative storytelling game for two players. How it works is that one player moves the "game" characters around a stage, selecting any object to interact with as he pleases. The other player is the "gamemaster", who determines how the selected object / character will interact with the "player". Each side takes 30 seconds per turn... which leads to very interesting results. Very useful for making flipbooks, interactive real-time storytelling. This storytelling game helps to restore the ancient art of making up engaging stories in real-time, as you go along. For an animated explanation of how the whole thing works: http://sleepisdeath.net/slideShow For an example story (this one is about a 5-years-old boy during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima...): http://sidtube.com/gallery/168/ More stories: http://sleepisdeath.net/stories.php Have fun exploring the stories! :)

8 Bit Color vs 16 Bit Color - Working With 16 bit Images In Photoshop, Page 2 - 0 views

  • So why, then, would it be better to work with a 16-bit image? One word - flexibility. When you're editing an image in Photoshop, sooner or later, if you continue making edits, you're going to run into problems. The most common problem is what's known as "banding", where you've lost so much detail in the image that Photoshop can no longer display smooth transitions from one color to the next. Instead, you get an ugly stair-stepping effect between colors and tonal values.

Google brings Interaction to Education with Google+ Pages | Rebecca Coleman | Social Me... - 1 views

  • A recent study of Google+ showed that it is more popular with parents than students,  which could be a favorable indicator of how popular it is for those educators of the same generation.
  • One example of how teachers are using Google+ Pages to run their classrooms, is that of Mr. McDowell who teaches World History at West Hills High School. Mr. McDowell has made great use of Google’s tools to give students access to documents, schedules, presentations, videos and password protected areas like attendance and grade records.
  • access to Google+ tools and pages from any computer promotes interactivity on the site and is a big hit with educators
    • Kartini Ishak

A good point to note. Educators are using Google+ for its easy userbility and interactivity

  • Facebook doesn’t offer a platform that supports real-time interactions and information sharing like Google+.
  • Google+ still has a learning curve for all users
  • Google+ Pages provides control for sharing information by allowing you to sort your contacts into “circles”.
  • This provides a new dynamic in which great opportunities for tutoring can thrive.
  • create custom “hangouts” which brings people from within your circles that you select, to interact in a virtual room together.
  •
A little backdated article in 2011, but I thought it would be good to start exploring possibilities of Google+ and using it in classrooms

  • information is public and searchable inside Google+
  • Without “friending” every fan out there, this information is difficult to track through Facebook.
  • A post in Google+ can be sent to select circles, meaning there can be circles for alumni, donors, current students and prospective students, and each can receive targeted messaging.
  • no need for multiple profiles.
  • Every item shared on Google+ allows you to choose with whom you wish to share it.

Ice Cream Sandwich: Hands-On With Google's New Android OS | Gadget Lab | Wired.com - 0 views

  • In all, Ice Cream Sandwich is a generous complement of clever features. The OS immediately elevates any phone past other Android competitors that may be considered for purchase. Voice dictation still falls far behind iOS, but aside from that and the vastly better selection of apps available for iOS, Android is easily just as enchanting to use, and markedly more robust.

Free Technology for Teachers: Adobe's Project ROME Looks Promising - 0 views

  • Project ROME allows users to create multimedia documents and presentations. ROME can also be used to create quizzes and to design websites. Users can build documents that include images, videos, and animations. Animations can be imported from an existing file or created from scratch within ROME.  Resizing of elements within any project in ROME is a simple matter of drag and drop resizing. Arranging elements is also a drag and drop process. Adding elements to a project in ROME is done by selecting from a large series of drop-down menus. Some parts of using ROME are quite intuitive, but as you might expect with a program that has many features, there are parts of ROME that will require you to follow a tutorial the first time you try it. Watch the video below for an overview of Project ROME.

  • Animoto’s functionality is in the ability to take photos and video that the user specifies, add a music soundtrack ,which can be from their open source music library or music uploaded by the user, to create a movie complete with transitions.
  • it is a great way to have students in an online class introduce themselves. Students are able to choose the images they would like to share as well as select their music. This provides a window to the students when they get to choose how to express themselves

Why You Need A Mobile Learning Strategy by Bill Brandon : Learning Solutions Magazine - 1 views

  • It is a mistake to try to implement a full "course" as an mLearning application, or to think of mLearning as classic asynchronous eLearning but on a smaller screen. In order to avoid this, designers must think through their instructional strategy (how to effectively combine the various modalities and platforms) and their implementation strategy (it may be better to start with performance support via mobile than to start with delivery of instruction). You can get a lot of help in this effort from the Mobile Learning: Landscape and Trends report itself. It will give you unbiased information about the issues, the tools, and the experience of many organizations as they implement mLearning. In the next two weeks, Learning Solutions Magazine will offer features on implementing mLearning. On June 14, The Guild’s Thought Leader Seminar will feature Gary Woodill, speaking on “The Mobile Learning Edge: How Learning on the Move Can Be A Competitive Advantage.”

Half of UK companies risk "corporate suicide" by banning Facebook and Twitter - Marketi... - 1 views

  • Facebook is such a popular application that is so widely used for personal and business uses, it makes no business sense to ban it. If companies do not address this they could be at the mercy of corporate suicide
  • Social networking is like food and drink to Generation Y workers, they are so used to communicating in a more open and collaborative way. Therefore, forward looking companies should be aiming to encourage social media activity amongst their employees rather than stifling it
    • Kartini Ishak

I couldn't agree more with this final statement stating that social networking is vital to Gen Y workers. We communicate more openly and collaboratively through this medium. And it should be encouraged rather than being stopped.
  •
Thanks Kartini! I strongly agree too. To add on to your point, I think for the Gen-Yers, social media tools also facilitate on-going collaboration by engaging the emotive power of relational bonds to help bring everyone onto the same page. I remember reading this in my Media Theories module: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda-setting_theory... hope you find it relevant! "Agenda-setting theory is the theory that the news media have a large influence on audiences by their choice of what stories to consider newsworthy and how much prominence and space to give them. Agenda-setting theory's main postulate is salience transfer. Salience transfer is the ability of the news media to transfer issues of importance from their news media agendas to public agendas. Through their day-by-day selection and display of the news, editors and news directors focus our attention and influence our perceptions of what are the most important issues of the day. This ability to influence the salience of topics on the public agenda has come to be called the agenda setting role of the news media."
