During 17.12.2013 meeting it was suggested that we 'manage' the NIE-Others ratio by stating along this line: Priority will be given to educators (after a certain percentage of registration is hit). Welcome, Choo! I do find it slower too, but the connection is more reliable. You can try reducing the colour depth / increase compression / decrease the screen resolution. :)

The National Institute of Education of Singapore is assisting teachers with the development of customized curriculum in English, Science and Chinese that leverages the benefits of mobile, Internet-connected, learning devices and provides students with new learning opportunities that are not possible with paper and pencil. We co-design technology enabled lessons with the teachers and provide professional development to teachers that enable them to enact lessons using smartphones. It is critical to empower teachers to orchestrate the transformed classroom to support students' personalized learning," says Professor Looi Chee Kit of the National Institute of Education. All smartphones are equipped with MyDesk, a next-generation mobile learning platform tailored to leverage the capabilities of Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system. MyDesk enables each student to access his or her assignments, relevant websites that contain podcasts, textual material and video clips and educational applications, such as concept mapping, drawing and animating, to practice both self-directed and collaborative learning.

    It is true that Apple iBooks Agreements have restrictions in sale of ibooks on other platforms. However the contents can be exported to other format such as kindle which has no issue with Apple as mentioned below. This is good to know if we adopt the iBooks Platform in NIE. "Additionally, content authored in iBooks Author could largely be reformatted into a basic EPUB format or other file type, such as Amazon's KF8, and redistributed without complaint from Apple. However, such works would also lack the multitouch features and dynamic widgets that iBooks Author makes it easy to incorporate into its own titles."

    The author shows how the Coursera pedagogy for xMOOC is still an instructivist approach aka a classic "sage on the stage" approach but which is one-to-very-many cMOOC is based on the connectivism-inspired approach, and focus on knowledge creation and generation whereas xMOOCs focus on knowledge duplication (Siemens, 2012) @MarkSmither puts it: "in an xMOOC you watch videos, in a cMOOC you make videos."     FRAMED* Interface is a screen that is seamlessly integrated with your iphone app, functioning as an intelligent and powerful control system. NIE should have something like this around the corridors, collabrative classroom and COTF rather then the normal LCD TV to take advantage of interacting with mobile devices.
