Thinking about texts, and using "pinwheel discussion" in groups to discuss several books together and how they relate to each other. Students "impersonate" authors and there is a "provocateur" in each group to pose significant questions. Nice teaching plan that could be adopted for several different levels/ages. This particular lesson is for grades 9-12 (ages 14-18), and is keyed to Common Core standards. Could be used with historical characters also.

This is a nice educational activity: Create a fake profile for a fictional or historical character. This can be used as a follow-up activity to see if the student is reading closely. Share with classmates.

Sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the mission of the World Digital Library is to promote the study and understanding of cultures. " This looks like a fabulous resource and it is map driven, with content described in seven languages.

A great example of a clearly defined lesson in guided reading and thinking in an historical context (Ghandi v. Ho Chi Minh as protest leaders). Ms. Duvoor models how to think like a historian as you read original documents.

Interesting site with activities for kids to learn about the geography and culture of ancient China.

This blog has great links to citizenship-related exercises and teacher resources, such as the US Constitution in simple English. Should be an important resource for US teachers of adult ed, as well as teachers of American culture overseas.

Nice example of a critical thinking activity. This is how the Gettysburg Address might look in live-tweet version; compare to the full version; research the ways it would link to other sites, etc. An interesting activity that could get students thinking about how the social media world interprets the universe. I can imagine this in a citizenship class, and adapted to many other events and themes. Teens/adults.

Make Amazon product pages to show the types of organelles that plant or animal cells might shop for. Create a Twitter profile for George Washington. Make Facebook pages for endangered species. A variety of activities for high school students.
