"The overall theme of this teacher-tested unit is using maps to understand borders and their impacts in Europe. The materials will help your middle school students to use maps to think about how borders intersect physical and human geographical features, and how those intersections can lead to cooperation and/or conflict. The educator resources provided in the unit include maps, multimedia, and case studies that will enable students to develop skills in map analysis and apply that analysis to specific situations. Other parts of the unit will invite you and your students to explore similar cases in Europe and your own community. Very useful for Peace Studies, geography, and mapping skills for middle school (10-14 years), and could be adapted to older students.

These maps based on U.S. Census and geography include demographic, economic, and business data about various areas. Should be useful for classes studying the U.S.

R Byrn's refers to Hi as a mapping service with social network. User geo-locate pictures with short "sketches" or even longer posts about the location. Students in international online classes could use this mapping app in creative ways to introduce themselves or create an online geography project.

Create a map with your students names, or they can log in themselves to add notes. Choose world, US, countries, or flags. Good short writing practice, and/or to introduce themselves, especially for an onine class. Print, embed, change colors, etc. Or use the maps for geography or history in a content-lesson.

The tools R.Byrne reviews would make for excellent activities for ESL students, for studying cultural geography, and for exploring relationship within the world.

This is an incredibly useful resource for language classes. In combination with news syndicates like ABC, Fox, AP, and AFP, Mapeas collects video news and locates it on a Google map. Students learn geography, read news in English or an FL, and can specify business, entertainment, science news, etc.

A crazy huge collection of free curriculum resources, well sorted by age, theme, subject, et al., and with a search engine. These would be great for lessons in geography, history, social studies, ecology, intercultural understanding, etc. Many of the resources are activities, such as "Be an African Family" where you decide how to make the most of the rural village where you live.

R. Byrne's article on using MapFAST, a Google Maps app: find books about nearby places. A great way to get students interested in local -- or distant -- history and geography.

Great links for using Google Earth for science classes, as well as for English/Language Arts (see "Lit Trips"), math, culture and history, etc. Pre-made lessons. Also links to "How to create Placemarks and Tours," "To Geography and Beyond," etc.

Not specifically for ESL/EFL. Nice that you can use the flashcards on- or off-line.

"I love genius hour, I love Innovation Day, I love the idea of learning and creating something. But I felt we were starting to focus too much on the creation part rather than just the learning part. For college/adults and K-12 also. Some sites have pre-made tests in such subject areas as history, geography, and grammar. Most allow different types of quizzes and some have games as well.
