"Within YouTube there is a free tool for creating audio slideshows. You supply the images and YouTube supplies the audio track. You can pick from thousands of audio tracks to match to your slides. After adding your slides and selecting an audio track you can add speech bubbles to your slides." "Creating an audio slideshow with annotations in YouTube is a good way for students to share the highlights of some basic research that they have conducted. Users warn that some of the links to help files don't work, but give it a try.

Many of these sites/apps have surprising features, such as the ability to insert a poll, educational portals where student accounts can be created, easy embedding of a collage or slideshow in a blog, student response systems within the slideshow, video mash-up, animation, video narration side-by-side, etc. Far more than Powerpoint can do.

"Shadow Puppet Edu is a free iPad app that students can use to create audio slideshow videos. The app offers an integrated search tool that students can use to find pictures from the Library of Congress, to search for images from NASA, and to find Creative Commons licensed images from Flickr. Students can also import pictures and videos from the camera roll on their iPads. " R. Byrne's blog also gives directions on how students can use this image search tool integrated with audio-slideshow.

R. Byrne discusses 5 tools used to create an audio slideshow (something between a Powerpoint presentation and a full video). Narrable, UtellStory, Present.me, Hello Slide, and Animoto, which has recently added a video clip option. Each has advantages, and Byrne's links at the bottom lead to some other alternatives and online tutorials. Let your students get creative.

This is a series of low-cost ($1 U.S.) podcasts about various topics in multimedia uses for teaching. The topics include narrated slideshows, telling a digital story, using smartphones, quick edit videos on the iPad, and creating multimedia ebooks. W. Fryer is the author of Playing with Media, also relatively low-cost for ebooks.

Make a video with one of the 3 editors suggested; create a collage importing pictures from your device; create a slideshow with Google Drive; use Silk to create a portfolio that includes docs, video, graphics, and links; invite relatives to virutally attend a graduation ceremony with Skype or Google+. The blog also mentions several other tools for creation and collaboration.

The sites include Codeacdemy, where you can learn to program i HTML and Javascript, TED, Academic Earth, etc. Learn anything about everything or vice versa.

Explanatory video and description of how students use slideshows/presentations to "go deep": "a very simple tool, with a low 'barrier' to entry (e.g., easy to train students to use), and with a very significant outcome for students - a rich, well, designed presentation with deep written information. Kids will find it 'cool' to have the computer 'speak' their words, so that's a nice hook too."

This might be a fun way to get students to remember what they did the day before: snap some photos during the course of the day, then run them as a slideshow as the kids are coming into class the next day. iPad is cool.

These are inventive and will keep students guessing while enabling you to find out what they know -- or don't. This is a slideshow that can be played automatically, and is under CC so can be freely copied and used.

"Most people don't think about the useful editing tools that are built into YouTube. The YouTube video editor has some useful features for teachers and students." The tools R. Byrne's describes are photo slideshow creation, slow-motion, annotation to link videos, blurring faces, stabilizing footage, and adding color/light filters. You can also add captions, music track, and select privacy options. This blog entry alo links to several more ways to improve your videos and add interactive elements.

This brief slideshow tells why portfolios are useful for younger students and shows some of the tools you might use to create them. You may need to sign in to Google to see the show.

"Cheating Death by PowerPoint teaches you to make great PowerPoint presentations by avoiding some common mistakes." This is a good show on how to really use PowerPoint creatively. But try Prezi, too. PowerPoint, as the presentation makes clear, seems to want you to fail. This slideshow shows how to overcome the inherent faults of the typical ppt theme and make your shows more interesting to students.
