Conversation English is an iPhone/iTunes app where people can view a short video of a dialogue and do exercises. If your students are crazy about their smart phones, this would be a good way to get them to practice.

So far iPad only, but their site at knowmia.com also gives tips for creating lessons using other tools and storing them at their website.

"Apple is upping its bid for its hot-selling iPad to be a teaching device, with an update today to its iTunes U app that allows any teacher to create a private course. "The new features, aimed at K-12 teachers who use iPads in the classroom, allow teachers to create up to 12 private courses. Within each course, teachers can point students to curriculum across lots of different (mostly Apple-powered) media such as iBooks, textbooks, apps, videos and Pages and Keynote documents." But there is no student information system or gradebook included, and you can't converse with students. Might be useful for mini-lectures.

This is such a cool tool that I have to include it, even though it is not free -- just .99 cents U.S. Create your screencast directly on an iPod and upload it as MP4 directly to YouTube. You can draw on the website with a marker, draw tool, or laser point in different colors and two different styles. Annotations scroll with the page. Will not record video content, however. Purchase in iTunes or Apple Store.

A very handy app for adding titles/captions directly on a photo, either plain text or in color, rotated, fancy font, etc. Thi is iPhone and iPad, but check out what might be available for other smart mobile devices. Use for vocabulary self-quizzes shared on social media or among classmates, and for project-based learning.

"The Aesop for Children interactive book is designed to be enjoyed by readers of any age. The book contains over 140 classic fables, accompanied by beautiful illustrations and interactive animations." This app is available for iOS and Android. Some stories have animations as well.

This archive site has recorded talks about art from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. You can subscribe via iTunes. Would be very good in a listening/discussion class, as the paintings are quite moving, e.g., Marc Chagall's "I and the Village."

This appears to be a one-man show, but has nice screencasts of a very wide variety of tools, e.g., Blackboard, iTunes, Photoshop, Internet searches, etc.

At last the answer to my wishes: A free video converter that transforms the Mac .mov format into almost any desired other format, including Mpeg4, FLV, and AVI. Despite the goofy name, QTAmateur.app, this little gem will make it easy to convert your Powerpoint movies into video that can be uploaded to YouTube and viewed on mobile phones, etc. Thank you Anvsoft, Inc. It also supports English, French, German, and Japanese.
