This blog offers "prepared Brainstorming" as a way to avoid the common abuses of brainstorming: . . . "brainstorming is clearly an oft-used and abused strategy in both classes and staff meetings at school. While we have developed this strategy somewhat with techniques like Think-Pair-Share, we can still fall back on the traditional model when strapped for time, with far from stellar outcomes. "While this infographic focuses on brainstorming, I think its message resonates across all forms of group work that occurs in schools, involving both students and teachers. I think it deserves reflection." The infographic offers the tips to good brainstorming in class and preparation beforehand.

"Creating infographics is a skill much needed in the 21st century classroom. They can serve a wide variety of learning objectives and they are not really hard to make. They are very useful in the sense that they can be used for illustrative purposes. For instance, teachers can use graphs, diagrams , and colorful templates to present information in such a way that catches students attention."

Shared infographics can visually engage learners. These are five to create flowcharts, Venn diagrams, audio notes, etc.

Infographics are all the rage. I think they used to be called graphs or illustrations, but they have the flair of lots more visuality -- colors, icons, photos, animation, and interactivity are all part of these applications. R. Vicki shared this Google Search Modifiers Poster (link opens a PDF). Many of the modifiers featured in the poster can also be used by opening the advanced search menu in Google and making search choices. "See the best data visualizations on the web all in one place." Mainly infographics--charts and informational maps. Students could upload their own graphs, et al., for comment and feedback, and the site purports to be creating new data visualization tools.

These sites include RAS Animate with thought-provoking videos about education and other subjects; Problem Attic with a bank of 80,000 quetions from the NY Regents exams, review tests, quizzes, and flash card; Learners TV with thoughsands of video lectures, tests, and animations in various disciplines to support classroom instruction; Sketch Toy which lets you draw and share pictures; Daily Infographic, where you can search topics and subscribe; and Google Tutor, which gives you news, tips, and tutorials about Google. Posters, websites, and video that explain statistics, particularly for the world of humans, in visual ways. A good way to investigate culture and content areas, as well as math.

Brainstorming or creativity by committee may hinder rather than help productive thought and encourage "social loafing," conformity to group-think, and fear of criticism, among other hindrances to divergent, creative thinking.

Med Karbach's blog is worth following. This particular article has a combination of good ideas and tools for the online teacher, including mobile apps and an infographic on the evolution of ed tech.

A cute infographic (?) of the what and why. Visual notetaking is encouraged for lectures and readings, and may help students make the material their own. I would recommend a combination with text notes, as students do need practice in all kinds of writing.

I usually don't like lists, but this one also has suggestions for using the apps with students. Info on the Wallwisher update, Padlet; infographics made easy; Thinglink for graphics; Aurasma for creating QR codes with objects, rthaer than a square, and so on.

"As you design blogging assignments for students consider that text may not always be the best medium to have students use to express ideas and share information. For the student who is trying to quickly convey an idea or share research that he or she compiled, posting an infographic or a video presentation might be a better method of sharing than writing a long passage of text and hoping that readers make it all way through to the end." R. Byrne discusses a short list of tools, including Infogram, Thinglink, YouTube, and SoundCloud, that help students make ideas visual and aural/oral.

This nice update has good infographics to help you get started in creating a flipped classroom: "it's not about where and when the learning will take place, it's all about who the attention is focused on."
