Gold mining - Bing Videos - 0 views

  •
This is a YouTube video of what it looks like in the mines and what the miners actually do. It shows the equipment used and how they move the equipment form place to place.
  •
This clip can get long and boring to watch, but I think it's interesting what the inside of mines look like and what the miners actually do. I'm wondering the hearing lose that must occur for the workers?

I stumbled across this site when I was looking for different primary source documents and lesson. I thought it was extraordinary! I haven't played around TOO much with it yet, but from what I can tell when you get into it, and look at a document/photo, it creates a web to related topics in a nice little interface, making searching for them easy peasy (like I said from what I can tell so far). I was impressed with it. =) From the site: Exploring the Digital Vaults is easy. You can browse through the hundreds of photographs, documents, and film clips and discover the connection between some of the National Archives' most treasured records. To use the media rich version of this site you will need to download the Adobe Flash 9 player.

Any place for something like this in a classroom, minus the strippers scene? What happens when we add the satire? Confuses or clarifies the issue at middle level?

I think this is a great site to use with younger kids. It has great Sesame Street clips of Grover learning about different cultures. It is a great way to get young kids excited about other cultures around the world.

Paulo Freire: the pioneer of critical pedagogy | MNP Blog : Maths - No Problem! - 0 views

  • Paulo Freire (1921–1997) was a champion of what’s known today as critical pedagogy: the belief that teaching should challenge learners to examine power structures and patterns of inequality within the status quo.
  • Remember that teachers and children are both learners:
  • Develop their critical literacy

  • Encourage active enquiry and curiosity-lead participation:
  • opening your own eyes to the injustices around us
  • When you start to notice how one dominant group in society may be imposing a culture or worldview on everyone else, you can begin to resist it.
  • Use first names in your school
  • Admit that the teacher doesn’t know everything
  • Give choice
  • Make project work research-oriented
  • Think carefully about texts, clips, and other resources you use
  • Introduce the vocabulary of critical literacy
