Now this is an interesting concept. Plus it provides long term funding for the Elks lodge. I expect a number of lodges could benefit by partnering with senior care facilities.

This is a cool fundraising opportunity that a lodge with the right facilities can offer other non-profits. Sort of like an open house!!

This lodge apparently rents it's facilities to businesses who use it for commercial purposes. We have a few in our lodge who think that you can't do that. I aim to show that you can

What a tragedy as there are no winners here. Losing this lodge is a tremendous loss for the Elks and gives the Order quite a public black eye. Hopefully the remaining members of the Austin lodge can keep the facility. Even if they do win in court though it will be quite a struggle to regain the former membership, become financially stable and remain a viable non-profit for the long term. I wish them the best of luck. They will need it.

It's no wonder the elks have lost so many members in Ca. These lodges are pricing the dues to cover the cost of running their facilities. In years past the elks were noted for "None but the best, rich or poor". Well, the poor, those uninterested in the lodge facilities or on fixed incomes are not going to join the Elks. There are plenty of organizations around that one can do good with and NOT subsidize someone elses playground.

Local lodge members OK'd the facility's sale, and a one-tenant developer has expressed interest, said Fred Sessler, the real estate broker handling the matter.

The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host an open house in conjunction with a motorcycle show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., Aug. 22 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. The lodge will be open for facility tours. Officers will be available to answer questions about the organization. The weekly Elks charity barbecue will be available at prices starting at $6. A tragedy of epic proportions. Elks manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Sell $15 million facility for a third of it's value. Plus throw in 150 acres for these questionable buyers to sell off to developers. Shame on the Elks for abandoning 80 senior Elks and a 100 year legacy.

Hard to believe how well this former Elks lodge is doing. GL really screwed up to lose this one.

They will need it.} It is more than likely that they have struggled, they haven't given up, and in my opinion have shown all of us what a determined membership can accomplish. Kudos to former Austin lodge, now The High Road on Dawson.

While it shouldn't be a permanent solution, sharing space with other non-profits is a viable short term option.
