"A Swedish man who was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife has been cleared after police decided the culprit was most likely an elk. According to reports, Ingemar Westlund found the dead body of his wife Agneta by a lake in September last year. He was immediately arrested and held in police custody for 10 days. However, the case has now finally been dropped after forensic analysis found elk hair and saliva on his wife's clothing."

Members of the Elks Club, located at the intersection of 10th Street and Knox Avenue, demanded an apology from the city and disciplinary action against at least one officer for police behavior during a July 19 incident. Speaking at the Monessen council agenda meeting Monday, club members said police overreacted when they entered the club in response to an incident outside the club.

This is a cool fundraising opportunity that a lodge with the right facilities can offer other non-profits. Sort of like an open house!!

MARION - The Marion Elks Lodge 32 donated $750 for the purchase of uniform jackets and trousers for the Marion City Police Department's Explorer Post program. "Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. A full year before the notorious and legendary Elks Lodge Riot, there were indeed completely successful punk rock gigs held at downtown LA's Elk Lodge -- and by successful, I mean no police interruptions. One such set of gigs include the February 24 and 25 benefits for The Masque at the Elks Lodge. Many of the artists who performed are featured in today's photos (none of these pix are from the Elks Lodge show, however).

LOCKPORT-Bingo receipts totaling more than $8,200 were stolen Monday from the Elks Lodge on North Canal Road, Niagara County sheriff deputies said. A woman told deputies she arrived to clean the building at 4 a. m. and discovered a rock had been thrown through a window.
