Activities for scholarship dollars, literacy in the schools, helping students finance out-of-state travel, wounded veterans, fundraisers for community members whose homes have been destroyed or are facing serious medical challenges or any of a number of issues Elks and the Emblem Club are there. Saturday, they're at it again with the annual July Fourth scholarship barbecue. Admission is $15 at the door or free with a $100 raffle ticket. In addition to food and games for the kids, a raffle drawing begins at 1 p.m. with more than $16,000 in cash prizes.

good job and excellent public relations. However, the elks are a fraternal organization. Not a civic one. Community service work grows out of the bonds forged by the fireside of the Elks home. Not the other way around. Subtle but huge distinction

Kevin Blaine, Red Bank Elks Lodge #233 Youth Activities Chairman, presents a check for $1000 to Jill Mc Donald, Employment Readiness Program Manager, of Fort Monmouth. Advertisement The donation will benefit over 50 children of Fort Monmouth's 2009 Summer Youth Volunteer Program. This program is an employment readiness program held for teenagers who are immediate family members of the military and of Ft Monmouth. The students will be gaining "World of Work" experience during the summer program through volunteer services in and around the base community.

MARION - The Marion Elks Lodge 32 donated $750 for the purchase of uniform jackets and trousers for the Marion City Police Department's Explorer Post program. Two local organizations have combined their resources in order to more adequately provide assistance to members of the surrounding community. On Friday, Modern Woodmen Representative JoLynne Stainbrook and Modern Woodmen Youth Service Club representative Adina Findley presented members of the Fort Scott Elks Lodge with a check for $500 that will be used for various Elks projects, according to Stainbrook.

I'm sure chicago is an endless money pit. Need to have a program to move homeless vets out of that corrupt hell hole of a town. They could have done it if they haven't had given away the Elks home for a song. there was 200 acres and it is just so very hard to believe that this crown jewel of elkdom couldn't have been utilized for veterans.

Now this is an interesting concept. Plus it provides long term funding for the Elks lodge. I expect a number of lodges could benefit by partnering with senior care facilities.
