I think of it as the lungs because they help the respiratory to systematize. They are the organs that allow us to exhale and inhale air.
If we aren't able to consume enough oxygen, our body will become tired and eventually get sick. We will have trouble breathing due to lack of air.
When you exercise, our body will get much more oxygens inside of lungs that our body will get more healthier.
