Some interesting apps here to support the teaching of Mathematics. I have used Dragonbox+ its awesome for teaching Algebra. Great for high flying grade 6's to year 8's Developers have introduced a greater range of apps across all areas of the Maths curriculum that can be used to enhance the Maths teaching and learning in your classroom. Here's a selection of 20 apps that cover Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability ( these are the Content strands (CS) Australia's Mathematics curriculum has been categorized under ). They also cover the proficiency strands (PS) of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. I'm sure other countries' curricula are similar in many regards and you will be able to make the connections.

This lesson introduces students to the concept of measurement focusing on centimetres and metres. It was designed for a year 3/4 composite class, has been tested and worked well as an introductory lesson to assess students current understanding and gaps in their learning to assist in the development of future lessons.

How blogging could possibly look at Bell PS. Would like to align this document with Ausvels and Australian Curriculum ICT Competencies. These competencies could all be easily covered through student blogging and other Web2.0 online collaborative spaces. 

This is a great comparison/juxtaposition of the Australian Curriculum ICT General Capabilities with the 21st Century Fluencies.

Another fab post by Kath Murdoch re inquiry. I love the challenge of connecting the children's questions and interests with the resources we have, the curriculum and the teacher's bigger picture view of where he/she wants to taker her students. I also love the fact that, in the schools I am fortunate enough to work in, teachers are prepared to have real conversations about the concepts the children will be exploring.

Would a person with good handwriting, spelling and grammar and instant recall of multiplication tables be considered a better candidate for a job than, say, one who knows how to configure a peer-to-peer network of devices, set up an organisation-wide Google calendar and find out where the most reliable sources of venture capital are, I wonder? The former set of skills are taught in schools, the latter are not.

WHEN Tony Wagner, the Harvard education specialist, describes his job today, he says he's "a translator between two hostile tribes" - the education world and the business world, the people who teach our kids and the people who give them jobs. Wagner's argument in his book "Creating Innovators: The Making of Young People Who Will Change the World" is that our K-12 and college tracks are not consistently "adding the value and teaching the skills that matter most in the marketplace."
