Chevron - Energyville - Home - 4 views

  •
    Chevron presents "Energyville", an interactive energy game developed by The Economist Group. The game challenges players to power a virtual city through 2030 and keep the economic, environmental and security impacts low in the choices they make. There is a lot of information to explore in the game. It's great for students, teachers or anyone who's interested in learning more about the complexities of energy management and how energy affects our cities and our lives. If anyone ever tries this..please post updates!

Merchants of Doubt - Home - 0 views

    This is a great movie talking about the industry growth and manipulation tactics behind climate change denial, including the Homeland Institute (the one that sent the booklet around to teachers last year). Can be streamed from Amazon, as well as purchased. Really great for bias and encouraging critical evaluation (and against the subverting of environmental science as a topic).

ECOLIBRARY :: HOME - 5 views

    Welcome to EcoLibrary! Students in my classes and workshops - ranging from college age to kindergarten - learn best when we use a lot of photographs and other rich teaching materials. EcoLibrary allows students and teachers to freely use materials that support learning about ecology, conservation biology, and the environment. EcoLibrary currently contains several hundred annotated photographs that illustrate key concepts in these fields, and as the site grows we will add maps, sounds, panoramas, and interactive exercises.

Surface Mining Simulation Lab - The Environmental Literacy Council - 3 views

  •
    This is my students all time favorite lab. Students don't understand the full economic or scientific impact of the mining industry until they have gone through this simulation. It's sort of like a geologic monopoly game. It is based in part on the ROA activity and similar activities in various earth science books.

    For many of us, envisioning the profound effects of climate change is hard to do without relatable examples. In this exercise, you will select a scientific graph that addresses an important real-world issue, create an illustrated graph from that original, and craft an effective artist's statement that connects the two. Once you're done, keep an eye out for other ways you can merge science with art. The possibilities are endless!
