Interesting site..good perhaps for ideas or use with those students who become home-bound. This environmental science laboratory course is specifically designed for practical applications of science using readily available household materials. This course provides the learner with firsthand experience of important scientific aspects of environmental studies, including air quality, ecological concerns, waste-management issues, and energy consumption and conservation.

Our simulated labs exploring eutrophication and toxin biomagnification, fire regimes and succession, and investigating general ecological principles such as population growth, species interactions and community structure provide a great way to add active learning experiences to environmental science courses. Several labs were developed for non-majors and introductory classes, including our Darwinian Snails EvoBeaker® lab which provides a unique opportunity to teach natural selection using an invasive species example.

The California Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC), administered by the California Department of Education, is a communication network supporting the environmental literacy of California's students by providing teachers with access to high quality environmental education resources.

This is a cool program for teens interested in Environmental Science - and it's free! It's in Pennsylvania, but there might be others out there.

I use this site in the beginning of the course to help students who have little prior knowledge to become familiar with what is going on around the world. There are also come interactive games they can play on the site.

I've worked with these folks at UW and tested their "Halobacteria" Labs in my classroom. If you're in a low-income school, they'll send you everything for free. Halobacteria are a great, resiliant model organism to grow in your classroom. Also Sea Monkeys (Brine Shrimp) love them and you can do a whole salty ecological community. They have lots of modules on Systems Thinking and dyanamic biological and environmental systems. Love their "cell phone" unit.

First introduced to me during my Environmental Education in Curriculum course, I've used a number of these lessons with great success. It's focus is on Place-Based learning activities. The lessons have been tested and developed in classrooms in urban areas, so they work! The books are in pdf and free! The goal is for students to "learn by doing."

Chevron presents "Energyville", an interactive energy game developed by The Economist Group. The game challenges players to power a virtual city through 2030 and keep the economic, environmental and security impacts low in the choices they make. There is a lot of information to explore in the game. It's great for students, teachers or anyone who's interested in learning more about the complexities of energy management and how energy affects our cities and our lives. If anyone ever tries this..please post updates!

The Story of Stuff is one of the most watched environmental-themed online movies of all time. Its animated and accessible to all levels of students. This is a great introduction to Environmental Justice, and what students can do to get involved through action.

I totally agree! I got to meet Annie Leonard at SXSW-Eco in Austin, TX last October after her keynote speech. She encouraged me to take advantage of the free teaching material on the project website. There's so much great "stuff" on there!

This is my students all time favorite lab. Students don't understand the full economic or scientific impact of the mining industry until they have gone through this simulation. It's sort of like a geologic monopoly game. It is based in part on the ROA activity and similar activities in various earth science books.
