    It looks like the most immigrants into Germany are from neighboring countries such as Poland, Russia, and other European and Middle Eastern countries. I would love to see immigration data from the holocaust era. It would be interesting to see emigration from that time period as well.

    Most refugees, Amerasians, and entrant populations that are entering the country are coming from the (former) Soviet Union, Vietnam, and Cuba.

    I think that it is also interesting how refugees are coming from the Soviet Union, Vietnam, and Cuba. I would also add that it is interesting how the other countries don't play a more significant role.

      Many immigrants leave their country for economic reasons, but many others also leave because they are in a mass movement, escaping wars, or personal choices.

    We have already touched on the topic that a large amount of immigrants today are from Asia and Latin America. In the future it is expected that America will see an increase of immigrants that are skilled workers. These mass migrations in the future will most likely not be for economic reasons, but will be for personal reasons or forces in history.

    This map makes sense because the most foreign born Mexicans are near the border. The most people are located right on the border between Texas and Mexico. There are also many people located up around California and farther in the interior of Texas. Once again this make sense because as immigrants come into the United States they will move farther into the state they entered in. I also noticed that there are many immigrants situated in Florida because this is a similar climate which makes the move less hard. Also there are jobs available.

    There is a high amount of refugees in the coastal states. These states all have a large central city or hub, which would mean more job opportunities, which is the main reason people migrating

      The U.K. wasn't willing to let any other immigrants into the country to decrease the threat of a a possible attack from the U.S.S.R. This was during the  beginning of the Cold War, which could explain why they didn't want any outsiders in their country.

    The U.K. hasn't been willing to let in a lot of immigrants since world war 2. They made a policy that increased the strictness of how many people were allowed into the country.

    This does't surprise me that there are the most Indian born born people in New York because it is a major city which lots of jobs are available.

    The highest amounts of Indian born populations are located near major cities. The greatest amounts are in New York City, Washington DC, and Chicago. It was interesting to observe where these people congregate. The greatest numbers occur in the larger cities. New York City has the highest population because when they emigrated from India, they most likely first stopped in NYC. Most families probably stayed in the area.

      This fact sheet shows data about the numbers of immigrants into the U.S. per year, which is useful on its own.  However, it also uses this data to identify problems with the official numbers of immigrants that are recorded.  The tables and graphs serve to illustrate that there is a difference between the official statistics of immigrants and the actual immigration.  The problem is because the government only counts people gaining legal status, which excludes illegal immigrants and includes those moving from temporary to permanent citizenship.

      Most of the U.K. wasn't foreign born, but those that were are mainly from the major trading companies from other countries. The people would come from other countries in search of jobs, and would just stay and raise a family there.

    It is interesting that most areas with more than 1 million or more foreign born residents are around coastline. I would believe that this is because that it easier to travel to large cities near the coastline rather in the middle of the country.

    I thinks it is very interesting that the US has the most cities by far. It reminds me of the map we saw with the arrows pointing to continents. Overall, most people were migrating to the United States. We really do have the image of "the land of the free and the home of the brave". People really believe they can make a living here.

    Most Caribbean-born Americans are found in California and Southern Florida. This is probably because of their distance from the coast, and how easy it would be for Caribbeans to get to North America. They are also located near New York and New Jersey.

    There aren't many foreign born Africans residing in the United States. The ones that do live in the United States live in either New York City, Washington D.C., or Southern California. I believe this happens because those areas are major cities in the US.

    California is the state with the most Vietnamese-born residents mostly because of the major ports there (like Los Angeles) and because it is one of the closest states to Asia. Also, the climate and job opportunities could be influencing the people of Vietnam to migrate great lengths to get to the US.

    I agree that most Vietnamese-born residents live in California because of its proximity to Asia and its encompassment of numerous job opportunities. I find it interesting that the second area with the largest Vietnamese-born population is in Houston, Texas because I expected it to be somewhere in the Northeast due to the attraction of urban migration.

    The graph shows that each decade, there are more children born from immigrants than the prior decade. This must be a result from the increasing amount of immigrants coming to the United States.

    The most South Americans are distributed on the East Coast, especially in New Jersey and New York. Another heavily distributed area with South Americans is southeast Florida. Ports in Florida are the closest in relative distance, so this may be a contributing factor to the heavy numbers of South Americans in southern Florida.

    The chart on this page shows the top ten states with the most people who immigrated here from Honduras. 18.7% of Honduranian immigrants live in Florida, which makes sense because Florida is a coastal state that is relatively close to Honduras in comparison to other US states.

    UK immigrants tend to settle in California the most. This could be in part to the cultural opportunities available and the wealth of the immigrants in the UK, not to mention jobs in technological corporations based in Silicon Valley.

    The largest percentage of Polish are currently in Illinois. This may be due to the presence of the polish culture that these folks are attracted to, drawing them in. The second most is in New York. This is most likely due to the fact that many Polish migrate through NY and as Ravenstein says that many people settle near their entry and the farther you leave that point the less there are (paraphrased to what he said.)

    This graph portrays the fluctuations in immigration to the United States, starting with 1850 until 2011. There is a dramatic decrease in immigration through the years 1930-1960, for these were the periods of the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War with Russia. In addition, there is a decreasing in immigration between the decades of 1990-2000 and 2000-2010 due to the U.S. recession.

    I agree with the conclusion that not many people immigrated to the U.S. during the Great Depression since there were not many jobs and the economy wasn't doing well. I find it interesting that immigration increased by a lot in the years 1990-200. I wonder why that is.

    I wonder why immigration was so low during WWII because you would think that Europeans would've wanted to get out of there as soon as possible to get away from the violence, and America would've been the perfect place to escape.
