  • The main reason no one uses OpenID is because Facebook Connect does the same thing and does it better. Everyone knows what Facebook is and it’s much easier to understand that Facebook is handling your identity than some vague, unrecognized thing called OpenID. That’s why, despite the impressive sounding billion URLs and 50,000 sites supporting OpenID, it pales next to Facebook Connect. Facebook Connect has been around less than half the time of OpenID and yet it’s been adopted by some 250,000 websites, is available to the hundreds of millions of Facebook users and has the advantage of Facebook’s brand familiarity.
  • Eventually OpenID will likely disappear from the web, not because it was a failure, but because identity will be managed in other ways. Mozilla is hard at work putting identity in the browser. It’s not hard to envision Firefox managing your OpenID credentials for you, just as it does today with your passwords. In that sense OpenID may end up like RSS (another tool routinely declared dead), invisibly powering features behind the scenes, essential, but unnoticed. Eventually online identity may even come full circle and move back into the real world — chips in your phone, tokens that generate random codes or biometric devices.

    auch wenn es nicht die grosse masse erreicht, würde ich es um gegenwärtigen zeitpunkt weiter anbieten. zumal, wenn ihr potentielle CCC-leutchen mit eurer plattformen ansprechen wollt. die wirklichen freaks (und damit early adopters) legen keinen wert auf facebook. twitter geht schon, besser identica - und um zu zeigen, dass man auf der guten seite steht: OpenID IMHO

    Diese Lösung hatten wir als "Aggregator" zusammengefasst. Ich dachte da steckt noch mehr dahinter. Ich finde ja Aggregatoren einen Ersatz für die Tabs in meinem Browser. Content aggregieren ja, aber bitte dann auch mashed-up und proprietäre funktionalität imho.

    Warum proprietär? Ich plädiere für maximal offene und gestaltbare Systeme ... Unterschied Web-Top zu Browser-Tabs IMHO: # Besserer Überblick aufgrund Fokussierung auf Neuigkeiten (soviele Tabs kann man gar nicht geöffnet haben und müsste sie zudem die ganze Zeit durchswitchen) # Webbasierter zentraler Zugriff - also auch für mobile Organisation geeignet # Individuelle Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten - dynamisch statt statisch

    Proprietär ist das falsche Wort. Ich meinte zusätzliche, einzigartige, nützliche Funktionen. Also Google-Maps Widget kombiniert mit ... z.B. den Positionen der User am Campus find ich super (also meinen eigenen Daten). Eine Google Map mit normaler (meist sogar abgespeckter) Funktionalität finde ich überflüssig. Ich mache da lieber einen Tab auf und such mir was auf maps, anstatt rumzuscrollen oder in einem mini-widget das zu machen. "# Webbasierter zentraler Zugriff - also auch für mobile Organisation geeignet " -> Ehrlich gesagt finde ich ein einziges Browserfenster, optimiert für eine 1024er Auflösung mobil unbrauchbar? Wie meinst du mobile Organisation, geht das wirklich auf dem Handy eine Webseite wie netvibes z.b. - ist das eine gute Lösung? hab aber auch kein ismartphone muss ich dazu sagen ;) Die Möglichkeit in einer Webanwendung aber z.B. eine Twitter-Message rauszuschicken (ohne auf eine andere Seite od. Software zu wechseln) oder meine lieblings-RSS-Feeds einzubinden finde ich super. Aber allein deshalb würde ich diese Plattform freilich nicht benutzen. Die muss schon was ordentliches eigenes ("proprietäres") bieten, das wiederum offen zugänglich ist über eine API. Wie es im Web 2.0 üblich ist. Der Kommentar oben gilt nur mal dem Ersteindruck, wäre schon hier einen richtigen Account zu bekommen...

    nur weil etwas für mobiel organisation geeignet ist, heißt das nicht, es ist nur ein browserfenster ^^ ich hab zum beispiel nen app für basecamp auf meinem ipod, dass echt ganz nett ist, kann ich dir gerne mal zeigen lukas ich denke auch wir brauchen etwas was mehr oder weniger neues und "alte" gute sachen wie z.b. twitter gut integriert.

    netvibes kann man prima mobil abrufen im browser - allerdings derzeit nur die rss-feeds und nicht alle widgets. ich bin kein so großer fan von geschlossenen apps. dann haben wir das selbe problem wie mit statischen websites. ich muss 50 apps aufrufen, um alle informationen einzusehen. das kann#s nicht sein ....

    @Katrin: Was verstehts du unter Webbasierter zentraler Zugriff? @Anja: Ok, dachte ich mir nicht dass das gut funktioniert. werd ich auch mal ausprobieren. Und wie kommst du/ihr mobil mit der PLE der Uni Graz zurecht, funktioniert das auch? Was meinst du mit geschlossenen Apps? z.B. die ganzen Apps für Android/iPhone? Für mich ist eine Webanwendung mit einer vernünftigen API offen (genug). Dass der Quelltext von Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Diigo usw. nicht offen ist kann ich verstehn. Aber mit den Schnittstellen zu den einzelnen Funktionen öffnen sie sich für Entwickler.

    @lukas mit geschlossenen apps meine ich kleine widgets, die nur für ihre anwendung gedacht sind. ich öffne also facebook und schaue, was dort passiert ist. anschließend gehe ich zu twitter, schaue dort. dann bei diigo, in den emails etc. pp. - und wenn ich einmal rundgegangen bin, beginne ich wieder vorne. DAS kann's nicht sein. friendfeed o.ä. geht in die richtige richtung. ebenso meebo und alle rss-aggregatoren. wenn ich so sinniere, benötigt man eigentlich nur 2 persönliche schnittstellen: eine für die information und eine für die kommunikation, die wechselseitig miteinander verbunden sind - egal welches system man z.b. für die kommunikation mit der speziellen person nutzen möchte.

    @anja verstehe, stimme auch zu, hier gibt es noch potential dinge zusammenzuführen (oder sich für eine plattform zu entscheiden?). im neuen wp7 gibt es zum beispiel nur mehr einen people hub, alle kommunikation wird da zusammengeführt für einen kontakt macht es quasi keinen unterschied mehr woher eine message kommt.

  • Between November 2nd and 4th, 2010, and thanks to the support of the Division for Lifelong Learning, I attended OpenEd 2010 in Barcelona, the first time the annual conference has taken place outside of North America.
  • Rather than cover all the sessions I attended I’ll focus instead on eight messages and lessons that I took away from the conference. Here they are (in no particular order):
  • Design OER for mobile first, desktop PCs second.

  • We can afford to disrupt learning.
  • We need to be less obsessed with OER content
  • OER, meet Web 3.0 . . .
  • An iPad (or an Android/Blackberry/Windows tablet equivalent) makes an excellent conference tool.

  • Take existing open resources, (re)mix, match, (re)assemble and repurpose them.
