Originally created for the International Press Institute in 1995, the publication moved to the Missouri School of Journalism in 1999. Today, journalism students work with staff members to produce content for the site and its accompanying radio show, which is broadcast on KBIA, central Missouri's NPR affiliate. With funding provided in part by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, the people at the Global Journalist provide users with current and archived radio shows on the homepage. After listening to a few recent stories, interested parties may wish to click on the Free Press Watch section. Here they can use the interactive map to learn about various transgressions committed against members of the press around the world. Visitors will find its pledge to "keep things interesting" refreshing. The pledge is accomplished by ensuring that "all of the posts on this site will pass the 'so what?' test that some academic research frankly does not." The blog entries are written mainly by those individuals who have doctoral degrees in sociology, along with a smattering of posts by sociology students. Visitors who prefer to get their daily dose of sociological thought in video form should check out the "Video" tab to watch sociologists speak on a range of news stories and other timely topics. This blog is a student project. Students taking Civics at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School are writing blog posts as part of a requirement for the course.

Dean Shareski talked about this in his article entitled, "How to Make Better Teachers", and the one word he used for his answer was "blogging".

If you're somewhat inexperienced with website design, you may wish to check out Weebly. The program has received solid marks, and it gives users the ability to create a free website and blog. The program uses a drag and drop website editor, so users just need to move the videos, pictures, maps, or text they want into place. Weebly provides the hosting, and they also offer over seventy professional templates. There is also a special version available for educators and schools. Visitors are required to register online, and this version is compatible across all operating systems
