L'étude a aussi déterminé que les menaces les plus importantes pour l'ensemble des populations des tortues marines sont les captures accidentelles par des pêcheurs qui ciblent d'autres espèces, et le prélèvement direct de tortues ou de leurs œufs pour les manger ou pour le commerce de l'écaille.
