"This teaching resource includes digitized selections from the Cameron Family Papers extracted from the Southern Historical Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill. The resource is designed for non-commercial use by educators and students interested in themes associated with antebellum plantation life. The original Cameron Family Papers (1757-1978) include some 35,000 undigitized items available for public perusal in the university's Wilson Library. This web resource presents only a small fraction of the total available documents, as identified and digitized by the site designers to best represent themes associated with traditionally underrepresented persons on antebellum plantations, namely slaves, women, and children. The Camerons regularly communicated by post with their family, friends, and business associates (overseers, tradespersons, and merchants). The level of detail provided in their personal communication provides a rich context for the study of antebellum plantation life in the southern United States. Site users may either search for letters related to a particular theme, or browse available letters using the index of letters page. All letters have been tagged by subject/theme. Letters are available in Macromedia Flashpaper format (.swf). Users may choose to view the original source letter, a typed transcription of the original text (easier to read), or both. The transcription is recommended to teachers and students with limited time, given the difficulty in deciphering original text. "

"Earth's Hope is the theme of the EARCOS Global Issues Network Conference to be held in Beijing April 4, 5 & 6 at Western Academy of Beijing. The Global Issues Network is based on the ideas in Jean Francois Rischard's book High Noon "Twenty Global Problems, Twenty Years to Solve Them." Rischard identifies 20 urgent global problems and encourages the formation of small groups around the world to help solve them. This echoes Margaret Mead's famous quotation, "Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Global Issues Groups have been formed in many international schools throughout the world empowering international school students to help solve urgent global problems. We in EARCOS will now have the opportunity to do the same to create change in Asia. We invite all EARCOS schools to send a group(2-6) of students to this life changing event. "

In 1832 Michael Sadler secured a parliamentary investigation of conditions in the textile factories and he sat as chairman on the committee. The evidence printed here is taken from the large body published in the committee's report and is representative rather than exceptional. It will be observed that the questions are frequently leading; this reflects Sadler's knowledge of the sort of information that the committee were to hear and his purpose of bringing it out. This report stands out as one of three great reports on the life of the industrial class - the two others being that of the Ashley Commission on the mines and 's report on sanitary problems. The immediate effect of the investigation and the report was the passage of the Act of 1833 limiting hours of employment for women and children in textile work.

Way back in the day, when I was a student, I remember drawing out my timelines with colored pencils on pieces of taped together construction paper (to make the line long enough). We've come a long way since the late '80′s, and there are a lot of web tools and apps out there that help users make much more advanced timelines than I could crank out with my awesome colored pencils. Whether you're using them to chronicle well known historical events, or your own personal history, these tools can bring together audio, video, photos, text, and more to showcase a well rounded, multimedia timeline to tell your story. Time Toast timetoast Time Toast also offers uses free, unlimited timelines and easy Facebook integration. Geography KS3 Unit 16 (Year 9) - What is development? This unit focuses on the theme of development. The concept is difficult and care will be needed in pitching the activities appropriately for pupils of differing abilities. One way of doing this may be to focus initially and repeatedly on development issues within pupils' own experiences. Pupils are asked to consider What is development? and their perceptions of familiar places. They use a range of indicators to analyse world patterns of development and go on to evaluate the effectiveness of similar indicators in assessing the quality of life of different people in particular locations. By participating in a trade game they consider the impact of trade between more economically developed countries (MEDCs) and less economically developed countries (LEDCs) on the latter, from different perspectives. The unit ends with an investigation of the Department for International Development's development cooperation policy.

"Meograph, a relatively new tool ( released in July, 2012 and still in Beta form) is one such simple to use but still powerful web app. It sells itself as a "4 Dimensional Story telling" app. In a nutshell, it allows you to tell stories through (1)images/videos, (2)narration, (3)maps and a (4)timeline (hence the 4 dimensions) OR WHO/WHAT, WHEN and WHERE. Now this could be done using a variety of software options but what I love about Meograph is that the whole process only involves 8 simple steps, which I am about to outline for you using the above screenshot and some simple instructions. There is also a video embedded below that provides a demo of the tool."
