A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

The project that the article is about informs the reader how important it is for literacy to develop all throughout the ages. Parents needs to be the primary assistants in helping progress a child's english and literacy, and then teachers take on the role as they get older. This article houses many examples for this inquiry.

Web. 21 Nov. 2010. Bullying has taken on a new form as it has started to occur through the Internet and cell phones and has begun to be known as "cyberbullying." This article focuses on a study in which students of secondary schools took a survey on how often the had been bullied through electronic means. In the first study, phone call and text messaging bullying were most frequent. In the second study, phone call and instant messaging were most frequent and text messaging next. Both studies discovered that cyberbullying takes place more often outside of school than inside school. This can be stopped maybe by informing parents more and including this topic in education.

The number of times one asked for help differed from person to person. Also, how a student determined what help was differed from race to race. The lack of help, however, did not affect one's grade point average.

According to this article there has been a decline in financial literacy over the past few years. More and more schools are starting to offer finance classes at the high school level. In order to ensure students make good financial decisions in their later years it is important that parents and teachers start teaching people about finances before they are teens.

In college, the distractions of a roommate are gone and the student can concentrate on their studies. Peer groups have a positive effect as well with more participation if the student does not feel comfortable speaking in class. Peer groups and peer tutoring also help with parents minds as they know their child is getting more help.

This article explains that alcohol really affects a student's likelihood to skip and class and fall behind in school. This article also takes a look at a student's likelihood to drink based on campus involvement, race, and parental drinking habits.

This article tells of how reading out loud, having family outings, and encouraging independent readings can help develop blind children's literacy skills. These help the children to build and better understand stories; as well as learning to "paint pictures in their heads". Finally this article provides some suggestions to parents of children who are visually impaired. Some suggestions include: Encouraging "pretend reading and writing", designating a certain spot in the home just for reading, and learn Braille alongside their children.
