"Reforming agricultural education curriculum in tandem with technological advancement and development demands remains one of the key challenges facing African universities. Fara-Web Bureaucratic bottlenecks and inadequate resources have conspired to slow down the pace of curriculum reform in the midst of rapid technological advances especially in the field of agriculture.The cumulative effect of the dislocation between agricultural education curriculum in African universities and practical realities could have a negative impact on development in the continent. Hence, the African Network for Agriculture, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Education (ANAFE) led a side event on Curriculum reforms during the FARA Science week held from 15 - 20 July 2013 in Accra, Ghana. The main objective of the session was to identify bottlenecks to curricula reform and agree on key steps to undertake to reform TAE curricula in sub-Saharan Africa. The session was chaired by ANAFE's Board Chair, Prof. John D. Saka."

"Experience from outside UNESCO-UNEVOC Regional Forum Europe and North America network enriches work of penultimate meeting ahead of next year's global forum in Bonn. The second session Tuesday (29 October) of the UNESCO-UNEVOC regional forum Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and North America on advancing, improving and greening TVET hosted by Moscow's National Observatory on Vocational Education/Centre for VET Studies, widened its scope to a broad international focus. The three-day event, attended by over 100 experts in training, system analysis and policy advice, opened Monday with the spotlight on two of UNEVOC's priorities - youth employment and skills development and bringing an ecological perspective to TVET. Tuesday's theme was regional and international harmonization in TVET. Delegates looked well beyond the regional boundaries of Europe, CIS and North America, which is one of the five regional clusters around which UNEVOC organizes its global work. Representatives of the Africa, Arab States, Asia and Pacific, and Latin America and Caribbean regions presented the progress in advancing UNESCO-UNEVOC's agenda, based on the Shanghai Consensus proposals identified last year at UNESCO's Third International Congress on TVET."

As a follow up of last week seminar organised jointly by PTA youth and land desks and PROCASUR and ILC Latin America, I first want to thank the 24 people who attended physically, the 61 people that followed the event via webcast and the approximately 20,000 more reached by tweets accounts. On August 24-28, 2015, 100 young leaders from around the world gathered at the Global Youth Ag-Summit in Canberra, Australia to discuss ideas, develop a vision and deliver action. An initiative of Bayer CropScience, the Summit was held in conjunction with Australia's only national youth agricultural network "Future Famers Network" (FFN) Australia. Operating since 2002, Future Farmers Network connects and supports young Australians involved in all facets of agriculture and provides members with access to the latest news, events, scholarships, wards and information from across all aspects of the Australian agricultural sector.

UNESCO is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2015, a crucial year for the international community's efforts to reach a consensus on limiting global warming and the creation of cleaner environments for individuals, communities and countries. In the coming months, UNESCO will continue supporting efforts to meet these challenges by focusing on several major events ahead of the UN General Assembly's scheduled adoption of new international development goals known as Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs). In education, the natural sciences and culture, UNESCO will continue using the soft power of advocacy, diplomacy and networking with civil society, to reduce the devastating effects of conflict and help make lasting peace possible. In the month of May, the World Education Forum, which brings together UN partners, national governments and international stakeholders, will hold its third session in 25 years in Incheon (Republic of Korea). The Forum will take stock of progress made towards the Education For All goals established in 2000 and define future objectives. As the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, says, "this forum is truly the threshold to the future of education, and a springboard for the post 2015 agenda," in which UNESCO is pressing for an "equitable, quality education and lifelong learning for all".

"We, at GFAR and CGIAR, are committed to integrate, stimulate and mentor the involvement of youth in all of our collective programs. At GCARD3, the Third Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development, we are taking any opportunity to live up to that commitment. We want to use the upcoming GCARD3 global event to pilot a number of innovative projects and approaches. One of these projects is "YAP", the Youth Agripreneurs Project. "YAP" is a pilot project targeting young agricultural entrepreneurs or "agripreneurs"."

"On April 25-26, the AYA Forum is being organised by the African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with Partners in GFAR: CTA, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the African Agribusiness Incubation Network (AAIN). About 250 young agripreneurs from across Africa, as well as institutional and business partners, are expected to attend. As a pre-event to the AYA Forum, CTA will run, on, a workshop entitled Accelerating Youth Agriculture Entrepreneurship Using ICTs. This workshop is designed for partners including development organisations, venture capitalists, young start-up companies, farmer organisations and representatives of national entrepreneurship programmes."

"Les écoles publiques (primaire, collège et lycée) se multiplient à travers le territoire marocain, au plus grand bonheur des enfants - et des parents. Aperçu, avec le collège de Toualaa. A peine sorti de terre, le collège de Toualaa, petite commune rurale lovée dans la province de Benslimane, dans la région de Chaouia-Ouardigha, a vite dû rehausser ses ambitions. Mohamed Manchour, directeur de l'établissement scolaire, n'en est pas peu fier : « A l'ouverture du collège, nous avions prévu de ne mettre en place que la 1e année. Mais face à la demande des parents et des élus municipaux, nous avons ouvert des classes de 2e et 3e année ». Et d'ajouter : « La population nous en est très reconnaissante, surtout pour les filles, car il faut savoir que la région est très conservatrice. Il était donc difficile pour les parents d'envoyer leurs filles loin de chez eux. Aujourd'hui, les choses sont différentes, c'est vraiment un grand changement. » "

"Les ressources agricoles, extractives et énergétiques de l'Afrique sont la clef de l'accélération de sa croissance économique ; qui plus est, d'après les Perspectives économiques en Afrique (PEA) publiées aujourd'hui, leur exploitation efficace et équitable pourrait être la solution pour conjuguer croissance économique et développement humain. Ce rapport est publié chaque année par la Banque africaine de développement (BAfD), le Centre de développement de l'OCDE, la Commission économique pour l'Afrique (CEA) et le Programme des Nations unies pour le développement (PNUD). "

"Il ne peut y avoir de développement durable qui prenne en compte une large proportion de la population, pour ne pas dire la majorité, si la question de la formation ou du renforcement des capacités ne trouve pas une solution adéquate. C'est ce qui ressort d'un forum de discussions organisé le 27 mai à Marrakech, au Maroc à l'occasion des 48 èmes Assemblées annuelles de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD). "

"Participant aux Assemblées annuelles de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) à Marrakech, au Maroc, le président rwandais, Paul Kagamé, a donné sa perspective de la transformation structurelle de l'Afrique. C'était au cours de la Session plénière des Séminaires. Selon lui, il faut surtout mettre l'accent sur le développement du secteur agricole. « L'agriculture demeure la clé de voûte pour transformer les économies en Afrique, et elle doit être considérée comme une entreprise, car c'est un énorme marché qui permettra de créer des emplois et de rehausser le niveau des revenus en Afrique." Comme pistes de solution, a-t-il dit, "il faut transformer le secteur agricole, le moderniser et développer des infrastructures. Il faut également mettre en œuvre des stratégies de développement sur le long terme. » En investissant dans l'agriculture, « nous améliorons la vie de milliers de personnes, assure le président rwandais. Je prends l'exemple de mon pays, le Rwanda. Entre 2011 et 2013 nous avons sorti 1 million de personnes de la pauvreté, » a-t-il poursuivi. Le secteur agricole doit d'autant plus être pris en considération que dans 20 ans, « la main d'œuvre en Afrique sera la plus importante au monde. Les jeunes doivent donc être dotés de compétences. Si nous voulons que la population africaine soit notre première ressource, nous devons investir dans ce capital. »"

"D'autres intervenants ont salué cette initiative soulignant que dans le contexte actuel, la plupart des pays africains sont confrontés au défi d'absorber un nombre sans cesse croissant de jeunes primo-arrivants sur le marché du travail. On estime entre 10 et 12 millions par an le nombre de jeunes qui doivent être absorbés par le marché du travail en Afrique. « Les jeunes doivent bénéficier d'une formation spécialisée et être employés de manière productive », a déclaré le Vice-président de la Banque Mondiale, Célestin Monga, estimant qu'il s'agit d'une condition indispensable pour que cette forte croissance de la population active constitue un atout qui participera à l'augmentation de la croissance du continent. L'ajustement de l'offre d'éducation au marché de l'emploi est aujourd'hui une nécessité, si l'on veut faire de cette frange de la population, une jeunesse créative et performante, à l'image de celle de certains pays d'Asie. "

"« ENABLE Youth » (dont l'acronyme vient de l'anglais Empowering Novel Agri-Business-Led Employment for Youth) est un programme dédié aux jeunes (18-35 ans) Africains désireux de créer leur entreprise dans le secteur agricole, né dans le sillage de la Conférence de haut niveau de Dakar sur la transformation agricole en Afrique et qui bénéficie du soutien de l'Institut international d'agriculture tropicale, qui a son siège à Abuja, au Nigeria. Il entend promouvoir, valoriser et moderniser l'entreprenariat agricole en Afrique. Pour ce faire, la Banque offre son appui au renforcement des capacités, promeut les professionnels opérant dans l'agriculture et finance les projets portés par des jeunes dans le secteur. Pour le président de la Banque, Akinwumi Adesina, qui prononce l'allocution de clôture de l'événement, il faut « voir grand » pour les agri-preneurs en Afrique (voir cette vidéo tournée en avril 2016)."
