Linking Agricultural Education with Research, Policy and Industry in Africa - 0 views

"The relationship between Tertiary Agricultural Education (TAE) and its siblings - Research, Policy and industry actors- can make or break Africa's agricultural sector. Participants who attended the workshop pose for a group photo Participants who attended the workshop pose for a group photo Strengthening the link between these four components not only ensures food security in the continent but also bolters - significantly - the continent's socio-economic development.Africa's agricultural potential can only be optimally harnessed if deliberate efforts are made to ensure that agricultural education is aligned to industry needs and research findings generate innovative products and approaches for industrial application and also feed into national and regional policies."

Le projet ERAfrica (European Research Area Network for Africa - Developing African-European joint collaboration for Science and Technology) de l'Union européenne répond à cette préoccupation. Il facilite la mise en réseau de bailleurs de fonds européens et africains en faveur de la recherche et encourage les appels à projets conjoints pour promouvoir des collaborations sur le long terme entre des États membres et/ou associés de l'UE et des Etats africains. Sharing international experience is focus during Moscow-hosted TVET forum - 0 views

  •
"Experience from outside UNESCO-UNEVOC Regional Forum Europe and North America network enriches work of penultimate meeting ahead of next year's global forum in Bonn. The second session Tuesday (29 October) of the UNESCO-UNEVOC regional forum Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and North America on advancing, improving and greening TVET hosted by Moscow's National Observatory on Vocational Education/Centre for VET Studies, widened its scope to a broad international focus. The three-day event, attended by over 100 experts in training, system analysis and policy advice, opened Monday with the spotlight on two of UNEVOC's priorities - youth employment and skills development and bringing an ecological perspective to TVET. Tuesday's theme was regional and international harmonization in TVET. Delegates looked well beyond the regional boundaries of Europe, CIS and North America, which is one of the five regional clusters around which UNEVOC organizes its global work. Representatives of the Africa, Arab States, Asia and Pacific, and Latin America and Caribbean regions presented the progress in advancing UNESCO-UNEVOC's agenda, based on the Shanghai Consensus proposals identified last year at UNESCO's Third International Congress on TVET."

Young people in Agriculture: Aspirations and Value Chains - 0 views

  •
Visiting the agricultural development projects supported by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in Mozambique, I was amazed by the number of young faces I saw in the villages. However, the resounding sentiment is that young people do not want to be farmers. This is causing deep concern amongst many over how to keep the growing youth of Mozambique in agriculture. With the 11th highest birth rate in the world, and a growth rate of 2.45% a year, the population of Mozambique is growing, fast. More food will soon be needed to sustain the expanding population.

Union for the Mediterranean » Global Initiative on Innovative Labour Market S... - 0 views

  •
"University of Milan-Bicocca, Milan, 14-16 October 2015 Around the world far too many young people are not in employment, education or training (NEET). Roughly one third of the world's youth are unemployed, looking for work or they are discouraged and therefore inactive. Unemployment rates among young people are particularly high in the Middle East and North Africa. In general, the youth is more vulnerable in economic crises and is disadvantaged on the labour market because they have less working experience and are less skilful in application processes than adults. Besides, one cause for high rates of youth unemployment is the mismatch between labour supply and labour demand. This goes along with a lack of labour market services focussed on the needs of young people. In this context the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), has developed the new Global Initiative on Innovative Labour Market Services for Youth."
