The Electronic Text Center (1992-2007), known to many as "Etext," served the University community's teaching and research needs in the areas of humanities text encoding for over fifteen years. Many of the resources once available on Etext are now available via VIRGObeta, soon to become the primary access point for all U.Va. Library digital texts and images.

British History Online is the digital library containing some of the core printed primary and secondary sources for the medieval and modern history of the British Isles. Created by the Institute of Historical Research and the History of Parliament Trust, we aim to support academic and personal users around the world in their learning, teaching and research.

This Web site is devoted to the project "Cyrillic Books of the 16-20 Centuries from the Collection of the State Public History Library" which was launched in 1999 and includes the library's electronic catalogue of rare books. Having most relevance for research in Archaeology, History, Politics and Travel, the books and papers of Gertrude Bell (1868-1926) were given to Newcastle University Library by Gertrude's half-sister, Lady Richmond, although part of the Doughty-Wylie correspondence came from St. Anthony's College, Oxford.

SCONE, the Scottish Collections Network, provides descriptions of collections held in Scottish libraries, museums and archives, and collections about Scottish topics held elsewhere. The records provide links to digital collections and online finding aids such as catalogues where available.

The American Verse Project is a collaborative project between the University of Michigan Humanities Text Initiative (HTI) and the University of Michigan Press. The project is assembling an electronic archive of volumes of American poetry prior to 1920. The full text of each volume of poetry is being converted into digital form and coded in Standard Generalized Mark-up Language (SGML) using the TEI Guidelines, with various forms of access provided through the WWW. In recognition of the effort involved in selecting, editing, encoding, and maintaining online the works included in the archive, we expect all users to abide by the conditions of use.

Novels-On-Line is an ongoing project making freely accessible full-text transcripts of some of the rarest works in the Chawton House Library collection. These texts, which explore such broad-ranging themes as satire, slavery, marriage, witchcraft and piracy, signal the rich texture and innovative character of women's writing in the period 1600 to 1830. In bringing these little-known novels to a wider audience, it is hoped to stimulate interest in these works amongst a new generation of readers and to encourage critical scholarship of some of the more obscure texts and authors represented in the collection.
