The OER university aims to provide free learning to all students worldwide using OER learning materials with pathways to gain credible qualifications from recognised education institutions. It is rooted in the community service and outreach mission to develop a parallel learning universe to augment and add value to traditional delivery systems in post-secondary education. Through the community service mission of participating institutions we will open pathways for OER learners to earn formal academic credit and pay reduced fees for assessment and credit.

OER Commons/Id, Ego, and Superego in Dr. Seuss's "The Cat in the Hat" - 1 views

  •
This site, which appears on OER Commons and originated with the National Council of Teachers of English/ReadWriteThink site, is a series of lessons aimed at high school lessons which use The Cat in the Hat to learn and practice psychoanalytical literary criticism. This will be one of the major elements of Module 4 in my "Politics of Dr. Seuss" course. I will be drawing from several portions of this activity, which reviews theme, plot, indirect characterization, and then applies Freudian concepts of id, ego and superego to analyze various characters in The Cat in the Hat.

Hadrian's Villa: A Virtual Tour - Smarthistory - 1 views

This is amazing! Not only can the students read about a villa in ancient Rome, they can take a virtual tour to really *see* what it looked like.
  • Many of the structures were designed by the Emperor Hadrian who ruled from 117 until his death in 138 C.E. This virtual rendering is based on current archeological research and has been created in consultation with art historians, archaeologists, and museum curators with expertise in this area.

      great! i agree!

I think this is an awesome find Maree. However it would be nice if this resource was built with next buttons to proceed to the next reading rather than back buttons. Do you agree? Thank you for clearly stating how you would use this in your online course.

I realized I didn't include anything about CC in my open course.  A poster might be a way to add an image, while still giving students a chance to learn about it.

I love infographics.  They have a perfect blend of image and text, though the stats can be skewed a little.  This one has an interesting chart on the right about how "open" the different versions are.  It's much better than the ones I find when I google.

Reasons to Read | OER Commons - 0 views

I will use this video in my course as an additional resource for student choice viewing. One of my modules is on contexts of literacy learning and this video is a brief glimpse of an actual classroom Reading Workshop in progress. In this module, students will be given a set of online resources to view in addition to the texts for the module. Students will choose which to view and will include these viewings in their discussion of module content. (Diane)

This is a game that can be used in the beginning days of school to review number operations and get students minds back in math mode after a long summer.

This is another game that can be used in the beginning of the class to help review order of operations and help students to get to know each other when placed in groups to help develop the class community.

Very Cool Celeste. Will you be able to incorporate these games in your online course? If so can you tell us how you plan to use them?

Could possibly use these to place actor in position of character: "How would you say this poem if you felt...bullied, pressured, etc."
    • Luke Fellows

Add questions for character analysis: "What do you think the character was thinking when they spoke the poem?" "What do you imagine when you hear it?"
