Thanks a lot, I mean the latter, a calendar (timeline) in relation to bookmarked or highlighted items.
But I cannot find where is "to-do".

I wished that contains almost all functions of "google calendars", at least there should be a "reminder" which enable remind me by email.
And if you can, why not creat a rss reader. I am sure that will be significant than google reader, since google reader donot support tag clouds, which will be very necessary for my collection of rss sources.

And then, the user will also be able to read their reminder by diigo rss reader.

This is very different from a calendar (timeline) in relation to when you bookmarked something. Diigo V3 beta does not offer to-do function to users of Diigo.

Keyword, VTODO: when I last checked, Google Calendar and the Google Calendar Data API did not support To Do items.
If you wish for a web-based system that supports VTODO, I can recommend Chandler Hub.

If you want an alarm in relation to a Diigo bookmark, you can:
1. in Diigo: get annotated link, copy
2. in Chandler Hub, or in any other service that supports VTODO and VALARM: paste.

For a VTODO: the default participation status is NEEDS-ACTION.
Do you wish for a reminder (VALARM) in RSS to read only once?
Or do you wish for repeated reminders, until the participation status of a VTODO is changed (from NEEDS-ACTION) to ACCEPTED, IN-PROCESS or COMPLETED?

I imagine a teacher highlighting sentences that suit a particular level of expertise.
For an early part of a course: the teacher (with or without a Diigo Educator Account) might use a private Diigo list, or a Diigo group, to draw attention to sentences that suit less expertise.
For the later parts of a course: the teacher might draw attention to sentences that suit greater expertise.

Since we usually want to revisit or re-think some bookmarks, after a period, the "Calendar" function will help us to fufill this.
Further, in the gmail or google list, calendar is on the second position.
The later is on our to-do. If just the pure calendar option, wonder what app do you see that in Diigo?

Discussions of colours include:

I can not imagine layers/levels of highlighting.
IMHO highlighting in Diigo should be as simple as possible, as close as possible to the reality of drawing a highlighter pen across a sheet of paper.
To a single level of highlight, you can stick multiple groups of notes.
Hope that helps,
