I'm using Firefox and I also use Tab Mix Plus to control how my tabs open. For whatever reason, TMP doesn't work with Diigo even if it works fine with other toolbars. That said, we really need an option to open all bookmarks in new tabs, if we so desire. While the sidebar works that way automatically, it does not work that way from smart folders.
Before anyone says to try ctrl+click = new tab, I'm well aware of that, and that's not my point. The point is that I want an option for all bookmarks to open in new tabs. Also it would be nice to add tab focus. I hate window stealers.

http://www.diigo.com/tools?client=ff shows predefined smart folders Recent and Unread. I have added a third smart folder, user-defined to match the tag WebArchive.
All three behave as expected with my preference in Tab Mix Plus
Do please remember to offer at least:

What's your version of Ubuntu?
What's your version of Firefox on each of the three OSes?
What's your version of Diigo in each of the three Firefox installations?
What's your version of Tab Mix Plus in each of the three Firefox installations?

1. Advice from Mozilla: Troubleshooting extensions and themes.
2. Have you reported the problem to developer of Tab Mix Plus? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122 offers two addresses for support. Remember to offer at least:
* your operating system, and version
* the version of Diigo
* the version of Tab Mix Plus.
3. Looking back: in December 2008, Joel (Diigo) successfully used both extensions:

4. Alternatives: on Mac OS X, you may find Glims or Saft (but not both together) more effective.
For me, Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.1 does work.
Tab Mix Plus Options | Links | Force to open in new tab: All links
Items from the Recent and Unread menus of the toolbar of Diigo 3.1.6.16 do open in new tabs in Firefox 3.5.2 on Mac OS X.
