Comparing Marijuana to Alcohol - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime - 1 views

  •
I'm learning more about marijuana right now, and what I'm wondering about is that if marijuana was legalized the economy might not be as bad at it is now. i was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it told me somthing i was not aware of befor reading this post. "How legalization would help the economy: [More...] Alcohol is a $131 billion industry and marijuana is projected at $113 billion, which I think is conservative. Just like with alcohol, we would need people to produce the raw product, we would need truck drivers to drive it from one place to another. There are so many jobs. I'm starting to get calls from all of these lobbyist sharks. They're seeing it's a business." the quote i chose here is basically saying that the selling of marijuana makes alot of money if it was an actually job thats easy money for the economy.

Bacteria Could Survive in Martian Soil | Universe Today - 1 views

I'm learning more about "Life on Mars" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: Is there life on Mars? I was researching this question online, and this blog caught my attention because It said that there is a possibility that bacteria could live on Mars. I thought this discovery was ground breaking, and I thought that nothing could live on Mars. "The question of whether life in the form of bacteria (or something even more exotic!) exists on Mars is hotly debated, and still requires a resolute yes or no. Experiments done right here on Earth that simulate the conditions on Mars and their effects on terrestrial bacteria show that it is entirely possible for certain strains of bacteria to weather the harsh environment of Mars." The quote I chose here is basically saying certain bacteria may be able to survive on Mars, but this is only inferred after a series of experiments, conducted on Earth. I think this is interesting because it makes me wonder if Humans will ever be able to live on Mars, or if anything does exist there, or if anything exists even outside of earth. I first read this and thought, "wow!" this is really amazing. I continued reading and found out that it was not completely true. All of these experiments were conducted on earth, but the test(s) simulated to be like the terrain on Mars. I began wondering why don't they just attempt to place the bacteria, I am sure on less person wouldn't affect the population that badly. I know that is a bit harsh but I don't care.

Environment Institute strives to shrink carbon footprint - 0 views

  •
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been about Environment. I remember my Math Teacher talking about it during his math class, but I didn't have a good explanation on what he really meant. Lately, the issue had caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that why is the environment important to the world and us? From what I have heard many scientist say that we need to have the environment clean. For example I hread that if we dont keep the environment clean we are destryoing ourselves. Now that's what I have heard, it may or may not be true. On thing that I know for sure about Environment is that it's what we live in and we need to make the best of it. Now I've studied my share of Biology and I believe that the Environment is caused by the smokes and other stuff that damages the world. Personally that's what I know and it may sound kind of funny but hey that's what ever one says. The most important about this topic is that Environment is what it keeps us on this world. An important quote that I believe that is given alot of information is where it says: Be the change you want to see in the world, said former UCL student Mahatma Gandhi - and staff at the UCL Environment Institute are acting on his advice.Staff calculated the carbon footprint of their work-related travel as part of an ongoing attempt to reduce the institute's impact on the environment. The study was based on the movements of a total of 12 staff and three PhD students during the 2007/08 academic year. The staff based their calculations on guidelines from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).They used the guidelines to calculate precisely how much carbon was emitted in the course of their work-related travel. According to the article :: The total carbon dioxide emissions for staff in 2007/08 amounted to 29.64 tonnes as a result of 231,700 kilometres of travel - an average of 2.5 tonnes per person. Of the total

Pentagon Checks Arsenal in Race for Nuclear Treaty - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Although Mr. Obama has vowed that his long-term goal is eliminating nuclear weapons, there are significant disagreements about how fast and how deep reductions might be made while guaranteeing America’s security in a world in which other nations maintain nuclear arsenals, others might be tempted to build them — and bomb-making knowledge can never be erased.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think that the United States can let go of their nuclear weapons when the rest of world is continuing to build more as we speak.
  • “It’s like the operation of a very high-end restaurant kitchen. It may look chaotic, but beautiful things come out of it.”
  • Mr. Obama laid out his vision in April, declaring in Prague that he would “reduce the role of nuclear weapons” and urge other countries to do the same, with the long-term goal of eliminating nuclear arms altogether.

FREE SPIRIT: SCHIZOPHRENIC YOU? - 0 views

Everyone has different personalities from each other. Some people are outgoing, while some people are shy. I think gregarious people always like to hang out with a large group so that they are usually afraid of loneliness, while shy or introverted people usually are affected less by loneliness. Moreover, what I'm wondering particularly is whether it's normal that a person has a double personality. One sentence that stood out for me in this blog was: "We all have both, the Devil and the God within us.the frustration that builds up, brings out the devil in you. He is the one who makes you unhappy, feel alone, lonely and tells you how sad a person you are. That is the time you feel the need of " a someone" to talk to, to shout at, to get your frustration out…then you try to look back in time ….happier times….sad times…time spent…life lived …which makes you sulk even more. On the other hand, the God within makes you a confident cool dude…be a charming person, people enjoy your company at the time you are smiling, making others smile…you are vibrant with positive energy. The God within makes you feel good about yourself, be at peace with the world around, the work you do in the day, enjoy the daily routine…spend the day without a fuss, any argument …and in the end, gift you a night, well slept." Thus, I believe that everyone has a double personality and sometimes it really affected our daily lives. Some people have told me that I'm very capricious and I also feel the same way actually. I can be very hilarious for a moment and become very impassive in another minute. I was definitely not as impassive as I look at that time and I absolutely don't have emotional problems, yet sometimes it just makes me look really whimsical. Perhaps it's just one of my personalities.

I was so excited to find out about the release of the movie. I was in Japan when I found out. Sadly I did not get to see the movie in Japanese. I did however get to see it in English. It was a beautifully animated movie with a great storyline. I really recommend it to anyone who like Studio Ghibli films or animated films in general.

i believe this is a a brief summary of the book when looking at the abstract section of this page when you go to the link. All about Film budgets and discussing whether or not its necessary for a movie. Its just bits and pieces of things that are good to read hear and there so you know more about this industry. I am very serious about filmmaking. As you can see thats all I ever talk about when I'm on diigo or youthvoices. I am convinced that this is what I am going to do in life.

You're Never Going to Direct Unless You Get a Little Crazy - 0 views

The way the Director Wes Anderson works and handles his films is amazing. He is, just a stated in the news piece, "a little sociopathic". I like directors that go out in their way. To be honest I'm not surprised. I've worked in a few film productions and not only is the director a bit "out there" but so are a few other of the crew members. Even my boss once told me "You have to be somewhat crazy to make it in this business"

FIlm Making Advice By Sam Raimi & Quentin Tarantino - 0 views

This is a great piece to listen/watch to. I love the advice the Filmmakers give. I've been researching a lot on my topic and I came across a blog that I found very interesting. It was hosting a youtube video of various film directors giving their advice to future film makers, people such as Quentin Tarantino and Sam Raimi are among the several successful filmmakers that give their input. What I liked the most about this is that each director gave different pieces of advice and covered different areas of practice.

  • If we lived in a country where a real thinker like Ted Sizer, rather than clueless managerial types and cliché-spouting politicians, got to be the Secretary of Education, maybe we wouldn’t need his wisdom so badly.

This is so true. I wonder what we can do to move toward creating a culture, a country or a school district where a practical visionary like Ted Sizer would have been allowed to be a political leader.

Earth-like planet discovery could happen very soon | HULIQ - 1 views

Three other planets that are like earth that's kinda surprising to me because its so new and the idea of maybe people living there. And we had no idea about this. It would be like those scientific movies I guess pretty cool.

This is pretty interesting to be because imagine they find a way to plant trees & flowers in mars and they actually survive. Then people might be able to live there too. That would be pretty awesome.

Everyone Needs Therapy: Borderline Personality Disorder and The Fake - 0 views

I'm learning more about "personality" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is:"Why do I always feel so lonely?" and "Why do I always act so funny?" I was researching this question onine, and this blog "Borderline Personality Disorder and The Fake" caught my attention because the title attracted me and my problem is somewhat related to that title, so I think it should answer my questions. This sparked my interest because maybe I'm somewhat depressed and stressed these days so that I always think too much, which makes me want to explore more about people's inner psychology. My favorite quote in this blog is "the truth is, most people with this disorder are smart, and they can really be very funny." This quote I chose here is basically saying that people who cannot easily control their emotions actually always look funny and they are always very smart. I like this quote because I think it somewhat applies to my situation. I think this is cogent and it makes me wonder that if I am also that type of person. I always look very funny, and maybe most people think I'm smart, which isn't exactly true... but anyways, actually I'm also easy to feel lonely and I always feel that I have some sort of inner disorder or something like that, though I don't really show that on my face, so people cannot really tell. I just don't want people to think that the thing I'm annoyed with is very silly and insignificant. Yet I believe that most people always get angry at very little things, but sometimes things have different meanings to different people, so something may be insignificant to someone, but it may also be very paramount to another. Nevertheless, I have to admit that when I get annoyed with something or someone, I usually just pretend nothing has happened. And the same with things that frustrate me. I would always try to look happy and funny even if I was very depressed. Anyways I believe that it's something that most people do in this society, so it's not rea

Personality Development: Avoid Emotional Responses - 0 views

  •
"Many times, as you listen, it is difficult to control you emotional responses to the speaker's message. Each of us has a list of words that trigger emotional responses - whether positive or negative. At times you will need to separate facts from the opinions of those who are speaking to you. This is called critical listening." I think it's very true that we need to " separate facts from the opinions of those who are speaking to " or "evaluate each message by deciding what is fact and what is opinion." However, when things happen, it's always hard to do. We are habitual putting our own opinions into facts when other people are speaking us. I think we haven't realized this problem or we don't see any problem with doing this. Yet, inserting our own opinions into the real facts may twists the truth, or even bring trouble to people or ourselves. Maybe I'm just exaggerating it, yet my experience told me we better realize this issue and try to change this bad habit.
