      Wow, that seems kind of harsh. I don't like the fact that these countries have such high competition with each other. It's like a constant war to see who is better. I guess it's just human nature to want to be the best out of the best.

      I have to totally agree with statement because the Korean culture is becomming more and more popular. Koreans all over the world are digging deep in to their inner self to represent their culture in the most positive way. Thanksgiving, or Chuseok, is now known all over the world and its making a name for itself. There is also Korean Children's Day and the Korean/Lunar New Year.

      Haha, this is so true. Korean actors and actresses make so much money and most of them start at a young age, so they can be billionaires before they even get married. Take Bi Rain for example. He just finished filming the movie, Ninja Assassin in the U.S. I can't even imagine how much money he made off this movie alone.

    I'm learning more about English as a second language right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how can other people learn English while their native language is not English? I was researching this question online,and this news item caught my attention because I was about how Spanish children learned English. "In one, English is spoken; in the other, Spanish. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Pledge of Allegiance and announcements are in Spanish; on the other days, in English. " The quote I chose here is basically saying the school is a bilingual school.

      There are many games similar to this.. such as maple story, flyff, ragnorak... its nothing new. The only thing good about WoW is the graphics and the fact that they update the game every single week. I'm rather tired of kinds of games because all you do is level and fight. It got pretty boring to me.

      But isn't one of the main attractions of video games to put people in an alternate world? I, in fact, don't think the game is very realistic. The whole idea of fantasy is what is so different from real world. I think that's what is most appealing.

      This does sound like Sims, however it is more fantasy. I guess it's what someone wants to get out of the game. I think that the idea of going on hunts and the whole monsters and dragons thing makes it very different than Sims.

  • Not much happens in “The Sisters,” the first story in James Joyce’s Dubliners.  Some of the meaning in the story comes from descriptions of the light in and around the house where the town’s old priest, Father Flynn’s body lies.  Other meanings come through the characters’ memories of the priest, expressed through incomplete dialog and longer reveries by the narrator. Additional meanings can be surmised from the vocabulary, some of the specific words Joyce uses in the story, “like the word gnomon in the Euclid and the word simony in the Catechism.”

      This essay began as a set of notes that I put on a Book Glutton version of Dubliners. I'm reading there this summer to see how it works. Then I copied the notes into a Google Doc, and I organized them and re-wrote them into this essay. With this essay I'm trying to figure out what I mean when I ask students to create a close reading of a text. What exactly are we asking students to do? We're not asking them to do research. Instead we are asking them to "use the language of the literature" (as an MIT professor put it in her syllabus ) n their own analysis of the particular, representative and evocatve sections of the text.
  • The narrator, a young man is introduced in the first paragraph as someone on vacation. He has had some sort of relationship with the man who at that point lies paralyzed inside his house after he has had his third stroke. It’s night when the story starts and the narrator is out for his regular evening walk. The narrator doesn’t feel invited into outside the house, but he also has a morbid attraction to what is happening with the man who has had the stroke.

He did not get in to college because of his legal status. Michelle is his girlfriend, she plays the piano. His family wanted him to keep a low key because they were afraid of what would happen. Every Sunday morning, his family gets together to play together. His mom sings, brother plays the drums, sister plays the bass, and his father is a pastor. He graduates high school in Indiana and his dream is to go to Indiana University, but he applied too late and issues arose. He did not qualify for financial aid because he is undocumented. His father tries to push him to find a job in the summer since school is about to start in 2 months. He cannot pay for tuition, cannot commute to college because he doesn't have a driver's license, and can't work on the mark. "I can't go very far." "I'm not sure what my future is..."

    The thing that stood out most for me was the saxophone that was playing throughout the podcast and the talk about college. It never occurred to me that immigrants who don't have their documents, might not be able to go to college. And it's hard for Sam to go to college, also because he has only 2,000 and even with financial aid, it's impossible

    I really like his story. The story taught me a lot about college, which is something that we are all working on right now. In addition, when he said that "But what happens after they leave high school? The best and brightest have no problem getting accepted into top universities. But that's where their immigration status gets tricky", I was also thinking that it might be an issue. As an immigrant myself, I was starting to think about if the immigration status would have certain impact in the future.

    Right now we are listening to a podcast. The podcaster is talking about himself. The podcast is about a guy who is undocumented and its his struggle in college. One quote that stood out for me was "whole family plays music on the stage." This stood out for me because it shows that he has a close family and they are there for each other. Another quote that stood out for me was " The whole college proses was very frustrating" I understand him because I am also going through this college proses and it is very confusing at times. Also stressful because everything has to be right. I admire Sam because With all the obstetrical in his life he still going to college and getting an education. It is great that his family is supporting him.

    Sam's parents did not teach him his indigenous culture/language. They possibly thought that by not teaching him Spanish it'd become easier for him to assimilate to the American culture, but by doing so I feel like it cost him a part of his identity. What if Sam get's deported, he won't be able to survive in an environment that he's not familiar too. His own father acknowledges his sons capability to adjust in born country.

    "Gold chloride is known to cause Peripheral Neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy describes damage to the peripheral nerves, the vast communications network that transmits information from the brain and spinal cord to every other part of the body. Among the many the causes of peripheral neuropathy are neurotoxins such as gold chloride, they produce common symptoms including weakness, numbness, paresthesia (abnormal sensations such as burning, tickling, pricking or tingling) and pain in the arms, hands, legs and/or feet. A large number of cases are of unknown cause." this is one of the worse case scenario for someone like me who completely rely on my grip and strength for my hands and legs and what i dont understand is how they could sell a product that did this to people without proper research and conduct to prevent this where as the goldmeso's product is supposr to be pure and help promote mental focus and fine motor skills which is great for me but im still a bit nervous on getting it because of what gold chloride did to people and goldmeso's is still made of of gold particles just more refined and more surface area so the option is still shaky to me
