"Welcome to the Mnemonicizer, the Mnemonic Device Device. A mnemonic device is a sentence that helps us to memorize a string of words. For example, music students use "Every Good Boy Does Fine" to remember the order of notes on the treble clef. (E, G, B, D, F). Math students use "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" to remember the order of arithmetic operations (Parentheses, Exponent, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract.). But the range of usefulness extends beyond music and math. They are an invaluable resource whenever you are trying to remember something."

The first edition of the book, written by Jason Cole and released in July 2005, is based on Moodle 1.4. The second edition, released in November 2007, has been updated to cover all the features in Moodle 1.8, such as the new roles and permissions system, blogs, messaging and the database module. Every December, millions of tech-savvy young people descend on their homes only to arrive to a long list of tech support issues that their parents need help with. A few of us at Google thought there had to be a better way that would save us all a few hours each December... The result of our brainstorm was TeachParentsTech.org, a site that allows you to select any number of simple tech support videos to send to mom, dad or uncle Vinnie. The site is not perfect and hardly covers all the tech support questions you may be asked, but hopefully it's a start!

The Internet is full of useful information, but it's disorganized and often unreliable. The potential of the Internet for education is especially huge. Imagine tapping into that potential. Imagine collecting all the best free educational videos made for children, and making them findable and watchable on one website. Then imagine creating many, many more such videos. Just think: hundreds of thousands of great short videos, and other media, explaining every topic taught in schools, in every major language on Earth. Finally, imagine them all deeply and usefully categorized according to subject, education level, and placed in the order in which topics are typically taught. WatchKnow--as in, "You watch, you know"--is trying to do this. WatchKnow a non-profit, online community that encourages everyone to collect, create, and share free, innovative, educational videos.
