A recommendation from Pastor Rob Guenther - He writes ... I found a series of podcasts recently that I've been enjoying and would recommend. Check out: http://quickanddirtytips.com/ (particularly Get-It-Done Guy, Get-Fit-Guy, and Tech Talker. But I also enjoy the Grammar Girl and the Public Speaker as a pastor/writer/preacher). Only 6 to 8 min. podcasts, but half that when I listen in double time.

Phraseology (iPad only) and Terminology (iPhone, iPad) are two low cost, high quality integrated writing tools useful for any writing task on the go from tweets to instructions, multipage reports, sermons, etc. Terminology (iPhone & iPad), in addition to its built in dictionary and thesaurus, allows you to chose which online word tools to check and integrate into your lookups/research. Phraseology (iPad only) is a friendly editing environment which is especially useful breaking down your word/phrase usage and frequency. Pay attention to the Flesch Kincaid Reading and Grade level scores along with other readability statistics, including root word frequency, and you can improve the comprehension of your written or oral presentation. Most pastors and teachers who either compose or copy-paste-revise content taking into account Phraseology's feedback should be able to greatly improve their audience's comprehension. I am not sure what to say.... Pastor may already be doing this from the pulpit. Ushers may be doing it for your church. But when a computer is recording this information does that make it wrong?

An interesting site which discusses illustrating the Bible along with providing links to sites which may provide some good Biblical graphics which might, depending on the copyright permissions of course, be useful for pastors, teachers, churches and church schools. (Check out the 2008 interview with one of my favorite modern Bible illustrators, Annie Vallotton.)

Shared by Pastor Rob Guenther - I've often wondered why DVD's don't have a TV edit track. You'd think it would easy enough to add a track where the foul language is edited out just like they do on TV. I'd let my boys watch some PG-13 movies if they had such a track. Well, there may finally be a solution I've been looking for... VidAngel.com offers $1 movie rentals. Well, sort of. You pay the retail price of the movie (let's say $20) to get a digital copy and they promise to buy it back (in this case, for $19) within 24 hours. (Or for a $2 "rental" fee if you get HD instead of SD.) I think it works like Red Box in that if you don't return it in 24 hours, they buy it back for $1 (or $2 in HD) less the next day until you run out of "credit" and then you eventually own it for $20. Cool program. But... what I like even better is the filter options they give. You can choose to remove sex scenes or bleep out certain language. Then it shows you what you'll see and hear and the new length of your movie. I think this could work well for youth groups as well as for individual or family uses. I think I'm really going to like VidAngel. I can still be culturally current but without putting garbage into my head. I may ditch Netflix DVD for VidAngel soon.

While the website referred to in this article (churchrater.com) encourages the consumer approach to churches and leaves room for the devil to persecute the proclamation of the truth, I think it's important for congregations to be aware that it's out there.
