Some research suggests that on-line reading (and learning) is not as memorable as reading hard copy. Learning strategies will need to be adjusted.

If there are any reading teachers out there that would like to give their students a chance to talk directly to the author of a book they may read in class, here's a list of authors who will Skype with classrooms.

Great tip. Macs have this feature too in some Apple apps (Mail, Pages 5, etc.) under Edit > Start Speaking. There also a chrome extension called "read & write" for this on the web. Article makes a good point that this is better for "lighter" fare. :) Also, hadn't heard of this blog until now, and will now be following it.

Signed up for this to be entered for some freebies from Kourosh Dini, an author, whose books and blog I've read in the past. He's a psychologist and productivity guru, who writes books, among other things, on how to maximize your use of OmniFocus. We'll see if I use the Productivity Guild much. I have to watch out for the trap of getting so caught up in reading about productivity that I become unproductive. :)

Wallwisher is a virtual wall to which one can add things. We will be using this link to post our thoughts and predictions on what will happen in the story "The One and Only Ivan," which we are reading for the Global Read Aloud. (It's blank right now (Friday) but we will be using it on Monday in class.) The site is in beta, but it's really easy to use.

The article is mostly an interview with Covenant Eyes, who makes accountability software and recently produced a free e-book for parents. I downloaded it to check it out and ended up reading the first four chapters just today. Chapters are short and include discussion questions. For a non-WELS resource, so far they do a fairly good job of being gospel-centered/grace-driven. Looks like a great resource.

Phraseology (iPad only) and Terminology (iPhone, iPad) are two low cost, high quality integrated writing tools useful for any writing task on the go from tweets to instructions, multipage reports, sermons, etc. Terminology (iPhone & iPad), in addition to its built in dictionary and thesaurus, allows you to chose which online word tools to check and integrate into your lookups/research. Phraseology (iPad only) is a friendly editing environment which is especially useful breaking down your word/phrase usage and frequency. Pay attention to the Flesch Kincaid Reading and Grade level scores along with other readability statistics, including root word frequency, and you can improve the comprehension of your written or oral presentation. Most pastors and teachers who either compose or copy-paste-revise content taking into account Phraseology's feedback should be able to greatly improve their audience's comprehension. Interested in tired old phrase remediation or reductions in redundancies and passive platitudes? Anyone?

One Room School advantages which Christian school teachers and champions need to herald. Bookmark and read this NYTimes article. Teacher student relationships are more important to effective learning than physical resources. Are our classroom strategies still based on the Prussian model? or are we leveaging the strengths and wisdom of the One Room School?

iPad and Android "flashless" apps have been released. iPad and Android users with network connectivity can now search, lookup and read many different Bible translations (NIV, God's Word, ASV, etc., on the go. You can also add and reference study notes too.

YouVersion is offering its NIV2011 for a free download so you can read offline if no network connection is available. They do this periodically, so get it while it is offered - free. Almost any device can use this app.
