How to Integrate Wolfram Alpha into Science and Math Classes - 2 views

  •
What is Wolfram Alpha? It is a supercomputing brain. It provides calculates and provides comprehensive answers to most any science or math question. Unlike other search sources, you and your students can ask questions in plain language or various forms of abbreviated notation. Contrary to popular belief, Wolfram Alpha is not a search engine. Unlike popular search engines, which simply retrieve documents based on keyword searches, Wolfram computes answers based on known models of human knowledge. It provides answers which are complete with data and algorithms, representing real-world knowledge.

What does a teenage brain on Google look like? Do all those hours spent online rewire the circuitry? Could these kids even relate better to emoticons than to real people? These sound like concerns from worried parents. But they're coming from brain scientists.

Download - Spell, Style, and Grammar Checker for WordPress, Firefox, TinyMCE, jQuery, a... - 8 views

After the Deadline is a free tool for checking your spelling and grammar while writing on the web. You can use After the Deadline as a stand alone tool at Polish My Writing where you can check your text for  errors before posting it to the web in a blog post or comment. But the real utility of After the Deadline is found in the Firefox and Chrome extensions they produce. Install the Firefox or Chrome extension to have After the Deadline check your writing and make correction suggestions before you publish to the web.  If you use WordPress to self-host your blog or your students' blogs, you may be interested in the After the Deadline WordPress plug-in. If you're an Open Office user, After the Deadline has an extension for you too.  Applications for Education If you have students writing on the web, After the Deadline could help them make their writings better before they hit "publish" on their next blog post or comment.

Scriffon - 6 views

  •
Scriffon is a simple service for writing and publishing online. Scriffon isn't a blogging platform, it's a writing platform. That means that you cannot edit the layout or navigation on the page on which your writing is published. Each writing that you publish is given it's own url. You can go back and edit your writing even after it has been published. If like, you can use multiple pen names under your Scriffon account name too.  Applications for Education Scriffon could be a good way for students to anonymously post their writings online and get feedback from others. For teachers or students who are reluctant to put their names on the web, using a pen name is a good way to publish without putting your real name online.

Take typing speed test and practice typing online - 0 views

  •
Unlike much of the teaching typing software available out there, Keybr.com does not force you to type random characters over and over again; that is simply boring and contributes very little to your learning. Instead, Keybr.com generates readable random words using the phonetic rules of your native language. These words look almost natural, and often they really are. Typing sensible text is much easier than random letters, and it helps you to remember frequent key combinations. For example, it's almost impossible for the letter 'W' to follow the 'Z' in English, and you will never type this combination in Keybr.com. Instead, you will type more common words, such as "the," "that," "with," and so on. Keybr.com lets you introduce as few keys as possible to the lesson, adding more keys later when you feel that you are competent and fast enough on the current level. So, if you start with the keys from the Caps Lock row, then add keys form the Tab row, and then from the Shift row, you will eventually end up typing real text with capital letters and punctuation.

  •
In Mind42, 42 is not only the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything! 42 means FOR TWO and indicates the collaborative character of mind42, because that is exactly what mind42 is: A collaborative browser-based online mind mapping tool. It allows you to manage all your ideas, whether alone, twosome or working together with the whole world. As mind42 runs inside the browser, installing mind mapping tools is no longer needed - for a hassle-free mindmapping experience. Just open the browser and launch the application when needed - it behaves like a classical desktop application! Mind42 is a web application - however, this doesn't mean yout have to set your comfort aside. Mind42 is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mind map editor supporting keyboard shortcuts, drag and drop, zooming and much more. No forms and lists which are generally used in web application. A real application - within your browser.
