6 Top Free Online Tools for Support Teaching and Learning - 15 views

  •
The six top free online tools were selected from available web 2.0 tools for teaching and learning using presentations, blogging, and bookmarking online resources. There are many excellent online tools available in these three categories, making the selection difficult at best. However, the selection was made based on reviewing available online resources along with other contributions and feedback from teachers.

I've always enjoyed using music to teach for various reasons, I can say that one reason is that after listening to music everybodyis in a better mood, also because it makes learning much more fun and teaching as well. Eventhough finding music to use in classis not the challenge it was when I started teaching, and some books have songs built in their lessons still Ithink it is great to have all those alternatives Larry gives at hand and I'msureI'm goingto use them.

Passion-based learning in the 21st century: An interview with Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach | P... - 11 views

  • But when I talk about the shift to 21st century teaching and learning, I am not talking primarily about changing the tools we use. I’m talking about transforming the way most teachers teach today – either because they were taught to teach that way or because the accountability system makes them believe they have to teach that way.
    • Carla Arena

It is really not about the tools, but about us and our students.
  • As a 21st century educator, I think about the relationship between content, the kinds of strategies I’m using as a teacher, and the technologies available.

  • I think one of the things we’ve done is we’ve trained the passion out of our students from the second grade up.
  • “the future is no place for our better days.” What if we concentrate on making their better days come alive right now in our classrooms? What if we make the things we want them to learn extremely important right now instead of serving up some prefabricated curriculum that we’ve masticated and are now putting in their mouths at some kind of level WE think they can digest? That’s what learning with passion means to me.

For as long as I can remember I've been using avatars to teach Internet safety. It's a fun and engaging way to teach students the importance of protecting their identities when they are online and a great prelude to using a variety of web 2.0 tools to support the curriculum.

That's a very useful blog for teachers who, like me, are initiating on the web 2.0 tool world. There are several tasks that can be easily adapted to everyone's class. Moreover, it not only shows the tasks itself, but also how to do them using a web tool and there are other tool suggestions at the end of each task as well. I particularly liked task #6, which suggests using students'cell phones to record their performance in a pair work activity, like a dialogue role play. I'll try to work with my intermediate students using this idea and I'll share my experience with all of you!
