WPDesigner » So you want to create WordPress themes huh? - 0 views

  •
I found this and thought of using word press last semester for 501 and how i didnt like any of the themes that much. if i had seen this then, i might have gone through and made my own... you never know
  •
    I thought this was interesting
  •
Look for a WP theme as one of the challenges at the end of the semester...

This is my rendering of the comment submit section. Everything seems to be submitting correctly, however, i just can't seem to get the database to populate. I reviewed the videos mutiple times with no answer. I thought it may be the 'localhost' issue, but bluehost.com does not give any of the options that we saw on 'nfs'...after about 7 hours of troubleshooting and every possible configuration... if anyone has ideas i would love to hear them....other than that, the site works flawlessly. Hope you enjoy.

Well, "other than that" is pretty much at the core. I wouldn't have known it was a problem if you hadn't mentioned it (will have to change the assignment). But this is a really core thing to figure out. If you can't actually store the material, then you won't be able to do this sort of exchange when you want to make your own stuff. There's nothing obviously wrong with your code. My guess is that there is something up with your username/pass or table names, but without an "or die" statement, we'll never know...

ESP-Test - 0 views

This is my rendition of the ESP cards with random card generation. This one had taken me a while because I wasn't quite getting the concept of how the url were being passed. After re-watching the videos, I was able to grasp the concept better. I had originally thought that i could have the php function on a switch and then have a hidden input variable passed to the url...turn out i was over-thinking it....rather than give away the answer, just see for yourself!

Simple Counter using mySQL by Laurens Hoek - 0 views

Since counters are critical to the usability of MySQL, I thought this copy-and-past version of a counter code would be handy for people.

Here is my recipe upgraded with some CSS. The only trouble I had was getting images that I created to link to my stylesheet. So instead I just found some images via Google Images and used them as background images. I know it's not the best case, but as I'm learning, I thought it'd be alright just so I can see what happens when...

Dice - 0 views

  •
Visualized the Dice! It took me a while but I finally got it! Instead of the random numbers popping up I replaced them with some die images that I found. I had to perform a list of "if" statements to make that happen. I also thought it would be cool to make this in to an advertising site, and give each user 3 rolls to roll a pair, if so, they win a small prize of sort, depending on the advertisement, possibly for a casino? We'll see..

A Long Way GoneQuiz - 0 views

Oh my gosh, it works. After two days of trying to figure out why perfectly good code wouldn't work, Dr. Halavais told me that I had to zap gremlins in my PHP text, because the text was imported. Anyhow, I'm currently teaching my freshmen a book called A Long Way Gone, and since I need to find interactive ways to keep their interest buoyant, I thought this quiz might actually work in my own classroom. Thanks to Jen Rock and Dr. Halavais for their help in getting this accomplished.

Dice: successful. They were a LOT harder than I thought they would be... much love to Ellise for taking the time to explain the mathematical side to me.

Hey all! Here is my photo gallery of sorts. I included some flower pictures that I've taken and I thought they would work nicely in this challenge. Hope you all enjoy!

HTML Code: MiniChapter 4: Links and Images - 0 views

This site tells how to add links to your Website using HTML coding. Links are a key to the interactivity of the Internet, so I thought it would be good to know.

I updated my three page Web site to include a horizontal menu bar. I'm still trying to work on the spacing and not having the pictures overlap. It's trickier than I thought!

Bryan Dumelin - Intro "Hello World" - 0 views

Thought I would share with everyone a bit about myself. It was interesting creating a page without tags because I was limited to the layout running on and on without line breaks or margins on the page. I tend to design sites with organization and structure and this was totally out of the ordinary for me. Happy Reading.

Stweet - Latest Tweet for New York - 0 views

  •
NO - This is not my final project, but I thought this was a really cool mashup to share. It uses Google street view and Twitter. The view changes with the Tweets, depending on the location of the Tweeter.

    Wow, cool mashup!

Webdesignerwall.com - Visual Tutorials - 0 views

This Webdesignerwall.com page shows 10 examples of what can be accomplished by using jQuery. I like these examples because these are features that I thought could only be achieved by using Flash. This page just has the samples. If you want to use these effects for your own site, view the tutorials at-- http://www.webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/jquery-tutorials-for-designers/

In my searches I had stumbled across and bookmarked this page - even though the module is over, I thought people still might benefit from it. There are tutorials for all the languages we've covered as well.

Guess a Card, any Card - 0 views

  •
this is my version of the card game page, but where the card facing down is a random card, not the established heart card. i spent a few min. hitting the same card to see if they would eventually match, but then i got bored. I think this code should work, should is key. Prof, i will email it to you as per the webprog instructions to see if theoretically it would work.
  •
Deja vu. Thought I commented on this, but maybe not. It sends the following as the realcard: cards[0]. Hard to match that with a 1 through 5.

Hex Code / Color Charts - 0 views

  •
When choosing text and background colors, it's useful to have a hex code chart to make sure you're choosing the color you really want. I like Webmonkey's chart because the color boxes are a little bigger than most other charts. Plus, they also provide the HTML coding to change the background color in case you forget. -- The Web Developer's Resource

Good call on WebMonkey. That was one of the first sites I ever used when I was learning HTML in undergrad. I loved it! Plus, how can you not love it with a name like that!
  •
:) I thought I was the only one who would be amused by the name alone! I didn't realize this site was years old. Thanks for vouching for it

Why Do I Have to Learn This Stuff? - 0 views

  • make your head a more interesting place to live
  • the training of the mind to think
  • 'So how does organic chemistry save lives?'  he persisted.  'It keeps idiots out of medical school.' replied the professor.

Clearly this page doesn't pertain to learning HTML per se, but it helps put in to perspective the whole notion of learning a new skill/language/subject. Knowing HTML may quite possibly be the one attribute that helps one candidate land a coveted job over another. Or, it may never come up in our careers -- but our minds will have been made "more interesting" nonetheless.
