Apache Stanbol (currently in incubation ) is an open source modular software stack and reusable set of components for semantic content management. Apache Stanbol components are meant to be accessed over RESTful interfaces to provide semantic services for content management. The current code is written in Java and based on the OSGi modularization framework. Applications include extending existing content management systems with (internal or external) semantic services, and creating new types of content management systems with semantics at their core.

A semantic wiki engine is a specific kind of wiki engine that extends the wiki's function of collaborative content management with Semantic Web technologies. It is thus also a kind of Semantic content management system. Some, but not all, semantic wikis should also be classified as Ontology editor or Semantic annotation tool. The AIFB Web Portal is the public web site of the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. It uses Semantic MediaWiki to provide a highly customised Content Management System. The site provides content in two languages (German and English), and it offers rich views for browsing different kinds of data. The content of the AIFB Web Portal is regularly edited by most members of the institute, from secretary to professor, but it is not open for public editing.

Wikidata is a proposed wiki-like database for various types of content. This project as proposed here requires significant changes to the software (or possibly completely new software) but has the potential to centrally store and manage data from all Wikimedia projects, and to radically expand the range of content that can be built using wiki principles.

OpenStructs is an education and distribution site dedicated to open source software for converting, managing, viewing and manipulating structured data. Structured data can represent any existing data struct from the simplest attribute-value pair formats to fully specified relational database schema. Material on this OpenStructs site ranges from individual tools to complete open semantic frameworks (OSF) with which to builld comprehensive semantic instances. All OpenStructs tools are premised on the canonical RDF (Resource Description Framework) data model. Thus, OpenStructs tools either convert existing data structures to RDF, extract structure from content as RDF, or manage and manipulate RDF. All OpenStructs tools and approaches are as compliant as possible with existing open standards from the W3C. The intent is to achieve maximum data and software interoperabililty.
