Forget iTunes U: Students Now Getting College Credit via YouTube - ReadWriteWeb - 0 views

College credit via YouTube. How's that for Web 2.0 Pedagogy?
  •
I don't see this as Web 2.0 pedagogy in that students watch lectures on YouTube and complete coursework. It depends what the course work is, if there is any Web 2.0 pedagogy involved. Karen Hi, In my haste, I too questioned this. I was thinking of Web 2.0 in the sense that the professor is empowered to upload lectures to Web - so Web 2.0 as the read/write Web. In generating content and sharing, the professor has the ability to reach beyond the four walls of the classroom. And, in doing so, may increase the opportunity for students to receive education. I do agree, that this is not an example of web 2.0 pedagogy in the sense that we are exploring in our class. I think it is Web 2.0 from the professors point of view but not necessarily from the students point of view. Perhaps Web 2.0 pedagogy really requires reciprocity as was mentioned in our article last week. Thanks for your comment. It is ok with me to put these notes on the diigo group page. :) MEM

We live in a digital culture which constructed by remix. Since the development of internet, programs, and digital machine (digital camera, digital television, computer, IPod…), remix can be probably more technologically developed dramatically and rapidly in the future. Especially, in classroom, young people are pleased to accept remix as a method which expresses their own ideas and meanings easily. But each student has different remix-manipulation techniques level. So, teacher must provide to students how to use the tools. This video is an example, how to Photoshop using in oneself. You can find many how-to videos on photoshopping techniques in Youtube.com.

this group does performances that bridge back and forth between real life and second life. Some interesting things happen when the virtual affects the real, and back again.

Jennifer Motter's machinima. I refer to Maria Martinez Gonzalez's 2008 article, "Feminst Praxis Challenges the Identity Question: Toward New Collective Identity Metaphors" and connect it with my thoughts on Post Secret.

This is an example of Web 2.0 (user-generated content, participation) happening in Second Life. This is happening in partnership with commercial news. An example of the new "hybrid" economy that Lawrence Lessig and Yochai Benkler write about.

YouTube - SecondLife: I'M JUST A DREAMER ! - Machinima Tribute to OZZY - 0 views

I found the tension between the Ozzy Osbourne lyrics and the virtual body / virtual landscape to be moving, but also a frightening "Matrix" version of our future planet: creating trees and living online because we have no trees. The word "dreamer" seems important here -- how can virtual embodiment lead to action in our first world.

I had trouble uploading this a a quicktime video. I actually had to save it as web streaming and use the expert setting in I-Movie to create an MP4. When I did this the video uploaded is 3 minutes. I also discovered to use PSU web streaming service you have to request an account. Only faculty and graduate assistants have automatic accounts.

I think this is a good chance to know more about how other educators and educational institutions are using Second Life in education. Here is the information about the fair. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Education_Support_Faire

This is my first solo machinima project. i have posted it early because it is about an education fair going on January 25-30th in Second life. I thought you all might be interested in checking it out before it is over.

From the Web site "About Tag ties and affective spies Tag ties & affective spies is a critical approach on the social media of our times. What happens when we are "tagging" , "posting" and "sharing" our experiences and opinions in platforms such as those of Facebook, YouTube, flickr or del.ic.ious? Are we really connecting and interacting or are we also forming the content and..."

This is a great video. It begins with a description of html code (ala 1996), moves to an explanation of style as separated from content (Cascading Style Sheets and PHP), and then into some observations about the participatory nature of Web 2.0. One good thing is - you no longer have to know code to participate. A perfect vid for this class!
