A good article that describes many of the potential pitfalls with PBL's. I personally try to use them as a tool in class. It made me think about how to use Web 2.0 tools with PBL's in the future. Andrew's last point was a great reminder as well.

When the author complained Cooks Source response was "So, to sum up: everything on the Internet is in the public domain and can be copied and freely used by anyone, and if someone copies your work and fixes it up for you, you should thank them."

Soem example of network tools are Twittter and Facebook.. This article was not an easy read.

Wonderful article on students solving real world issues while using their problem solving skills and creativity. Even though this was a contest and not a lesson plan, this is how our lessons and classrooms should be structured.

The article also mentions ways in which to keep teacher energy at its best. At least for me, this article is very timely (7 student days remaining). I think it's also very important for communication. If we forget our purpose in teaching (even in the last few days of school), we can also forget about motivation from our students. All of these things truly work hand in hand.

A great article about how it is actually quite easy to use many of the web 2.0 tools to collect and analyze quickly, the current media and create connections between it and your classroom, or at least ideas to which you teach. This teacher did a great job of doing what so many of us try to do everyday. Finding current events and relating it to our classroom. But by having more feeds connected to one site, she was able to quickly narrow her search to whatever it was that she was teaching at the time. She also made it a point to observe the news feeds with her students and ask them to try to make the connections. If there was a story that made sense or got them intrigued and interested, they researched and read it together. A great way to teach young students how to filter the information that they are being exposed to, and to seek out credible references to initial questions and information.

A blog post about Edistorm. It is a free, Post-It Note style brainstorming tool. An alternative to Wallwisher, but probably geared more towards a corporate setting. There is a limited Free account, as well as, an inexpensive Educator account. A neat collaboration and communication tool worth checking out.

Article that opens up the Chicken and the Egg discussion when it comes to Higher Order Thinking Skills. "Are beginning courses the best time to teach facts? Must students know the facts before they can think at higher levels? Asked a bit differently, is knowing the facts all that's needed to think at higher levels? Must students practice making connections, integrating facts and applying information, or can they do that automatically (once) they've got the facts?

Teaching students to think using higher order thinking skills may require teachers to think using higher order thinking skills. This article surely has me pondering the question, "Must students know the facts before they can think at higher levels?"
