"As part of the JISC-funded Student Expectations of University project, aimed at enhancing applicants' understanding of university experiences, the 1994 Group have produced this report to illustrate innovative and excellent practice in the areas of: communicating with prospective students; providing information, advice and guidance (IAG) to applicants; and managing student expectations of university."

First stable release in 2003 - the following description sounds uncannily familiar! "iPeer is an open source web application application that allows instructors to develop and deliver  rubric-based peer evaluations, to review and release student comments, to build progress report forms online, and to analyze evaluation results. iPeer features a built-in user management system, data import/export, and an easy-to-use installer."

The LINK site explores and supports this knowledge - network - learning approach. LINK contains dozens of ideas about teaching and learning via the Internet, as well as tools (freely available web-based applications) that you can use."

Interesting service - an 'Internet OS' - which replicates and extends some of the Google Applications.

"TAGS Viewer allows users to browse, explore, and search a Twitter archive. As a backend, it requires Martin Hawksey's Twitter Archive Google Spreadsheet (TAGS). TAGS provides a free, non-technical method of archiving tweets for a given hashtag, which can be particularly useful for capturing a conference's backchannel. This application is contained in a single HTML file and has no server dependencies, which makes it easy to host anywhere: just upload a single file (this one!) and you're done. Or, if you don't need to share it with anyone, just double-click the file on your hard drive to open it in your Web browser. Configuration is as simple as supplying a Google Spreadsheet URL"

Audrey Watters suggests this project should apply itself to education too. ""'I have read and agree to the Terms'" is the biggest lie on the web," insists a new project Terms of Service; Didn't Read. "We aim to fix that." A play on the Internet lingo "tl;dr" (too long; didn't read), the site reviews the Terms of Service agreements for major websites and applications. TOS;DR then rates the terms from good to bad, A to F, based on things like data portability, anonymity, cookies, data ownership, copyright, censorship, and transparency about law enforcement requests."

"Coffeecourses can be done at your own pace at any time that suits you... Each course is made up of quick (~10 minutes) tasks that can be completed whenever you have time, sitting down with a good cup of coffee..." Nice idea! Application for digital literacy?

Blockly is a web-based, graphical programming language. Users can drag blocks together to build an application. No typing required.

App available for iPod touch or iPhone to enable student responses - is free application but with subscription required and the teacher has to download and install some software on the podium workstation to use it

"LectureTools is a student response system that also allows students to take notes linked with the slides and videos presented in class, answer instructor generated questions and pose questions to the instructor. All notes, questions and activities are instantly synchronized with the LectureTools web application."

Hey guys. Just watched a live session online at Cisco w the developers of this system, still in development, but interesting differentiators vs 2Life, e.g. peer-to-peer, nested worlds, oh and its open-source. Thought yaz might be interested in tracking it.
